Wi-Fi Calling is coming to Fizz 📶
Good news, Fizz members: Wi-Fi Calling is gradually making its way to Fizz. Wi-Fi Calling (VoWiFi, or Voice over Wi-Fi) is a technology that lets you make and receive calls (and, under certain conditions, send text messages) over a Wi-Fi network, even when cellular coverage is weak or unavailable. In short, it's the solution for those calls that keep dropping when you're in the basement.
A gradual rollout
Wi-Fi Calling availability depends on software support from device manufacturers (Apple, Samsung, Google, and others). Some devices may not be compatible with this technology. That's why this new feature will be rolled out gradually over the coming months, device by device, based on software updates made available by manufacturers.
As a result, some of you will see the feature become available before others, and that's perfectly normal. Unfortunately, we're unable to provide a specific rollout date or a definitive list of compatible devices, as factors outside of our control may affect the timeline. Since this is a phased launch involving several variables beyond our control, we ask that you refrain from contacting customer service to inquire about a specific device model or rollout date; this information is simply not available at this time.

Great news, how it work when the plan have no minutes and use wallet for calls, it will cost 5cent a minute just like normal call?

This is good news! I have unlimited calling with Fizz, which is $3/month extra, plus Canadian long distance and coverage, which is $1/month extra. It's good to know that I can make calls over 5G, 4G, 3G (currently) and now Wi-Fi! I'll see if I notice a quality difference between the different networks. ☎️
For those who use a wallet or add-on, I assume that Wi-Fi Calling deducts funds or minutes from those? If so, then it's only worth it for Fizzers of few words. People who talk a lot should pay the $3/month for unlimited calling, and the $1 or $2 extra for Canada and/or US long distance. 😁

This is an exciting update. While I appreciate that Fizz can't say when support for certain devices will be added, it would be nice to have an ongoing list that would show the devices on which this has been made available.

Seems to be working on Pixel phones that are on the QPR2 beta. It's working on my Pixel 8 with the latest QPR2 beta, and people on Reddit with different Pixel models are reporting the same0

NOT working on either my partner's or my Pixel 7 phones. This sure would be helpful, especially if it works when traveling out of country. I'm hoping to be able to make a call back to Canada using WiFi calling when traveling since almost all data e-sims don't include calling to actual telephone numbers.

According to the FAQ page (https://fizz.ca/en/faq/how-does-wi-fi-calling-work): "The service is available in Canada and the United States with an eligible plan. A Canada/US plan is required when using the service in the United States. The service is not currently available overseas."
