Can esim be installed from abroad?
Hello! I'm a student studying in Toronto, so I have a Canadian address and also a plan with Fizz.
My mom is flying in from overseas and I’m wondering about Fizz eSIMs.
Can she set up/install/activate the Fizz eSIM before she travels (while she is not in Canada), so that it’s ready to go as soon as she lands here?
I understand she won't be able to actually use the service until she arrives, but ideally everything would be installed already and she would just have to turn on the eSIM when she gets off the plane at the airport.
Has anyone done this before? Does it work fine?

Hi, you can Ask support directly via chat

Hi @Elegant_Tangerine
I don’t see a technical reason why this wouldn’t work, assuming she will be asking for a new number.
I suggest she try it out and let us know how it goes!
Cheers,

The key here is to try, there is no way to answer this and account for every possible eventuality. There are two reasons this may fail.
1. Fizz itself blocks access to the eSIM activation server from certain places or countries for "security reasons" (completely ignoring that the eSIM activation protocol is designed to be secure in itself).
2. The WiFi, your mom would put her phone on to activate the eSIM, does not provide a fully transparent Internet connection, i.e. it is blocking certain types of Internet traffic or protocols. The best chance you have using a WiFi from a private residential home Internet connection in a country without any great big beautiful national firewalls.0 -
Hello Elegant_Tangerine,
Thank you for your question.
As long as she has the QR code available, she can install the Fizz eSIM from anywhere; she does not need to be located in Canada to complete the installation. However, the services may not work depending on her location. If she would like to use Fizz services while outside Canada, she can purchase the appropriate Add-Ons.
You can find more details about using Fizz services outside your coverage area here:

For more information about eSIM installation, please refer to:

I hope you have a pleasant day!
