How I Spent This Summer

I bought both voice and data travel add-ons for the USA specifically for this trip, but they turned out to be almost useless.

On the first day, I drove from Montreal to 150 Chem. du Père Roy, Saint-Herménégilde, QC J0B 2W0. I lost mobile service already as I was approaching the area, and it only came back after I restarted my phone. The connection was very unstable and kept dropping. It was so bad that I had to ask the campground owner for Wi-Fi.

The next day, I drove to Sargent's Purchase, NH 03846, United States, and for almost the entire route my phone showed that there was no network.

During the trip, I asked my travel companions several times whether their phones were having the same reception problems. They laughed and said, “No, everything works fine because we don’t use Fizz”.

Fizz uses V. and other external networks. In the USA, Fizz operates on a major network, so this isn’t a Fizz issue in the USA. In the corner of the campsite, it's the R. network, normally like a Fizz subnetwork.

It’s possible that this is unstable because of the valleys. It’s also possible that the signal is picking up one from the USA.

Do you have a VoLTE-certified phone from Fizz?
Is your phone from North America or Canada?
    What’s the model?
    Do you have active roaming?

There has never been a problem with Fizz.
