Ontario-only plan in Ottawa?

It wasn't that long ago that I read the same comments, so I'd assume it's still the case and users might get charged for roaming without noticing. I didn't have that experience though.

The best thing is to turn off roaming to make sure you don't get charged through your wallet, otherwise, with Fizz there are no hidden fees.

I read some old comments that some times it connects to towers in Quebec even if you are in Ottawa and doesn't work then.
That comment was from me and dates back to May 2026. I encountered this in downtown Ottawa, close to the river, i.e. downtown hotels, Major Hill's Park and Parliament Hill. Shouldn't be much of a problem once you move away from the Ottawa river. I haven't been there since, so I couldn't tell you whether "it got better".

At least that situation may have changed as a @Whizz had recently commented that the wallet can now only be used from your plan's coverage area. See

However, it is difficult to say for sure, because Fizz FAQ about the wallet lacks precision and is contradictory in itself.
Then again, last month at Trudeau Airport, my wallet wasn't charged even though I was out-of-province and forgot to turn off my data in time. So, I'm inclined to believe the @Whizz statement over the FAQ.

That statement is incorrect. Turning off roaming will not prevent your phone in Ottawa from associating with Québec towers. As it is not roaming. You're on the native Fizz network, regardless of what side of the river you are connected to.
