Flip Phone
Biggest thing is I want to keep his number. How does it work to import the number if it's a flip phone?
I just want to work out these kinks in my mind before making the change. TIA.

Hi, the process to port a number should be the same, regardless of model. You choose a plan and follow the steps online to transfer the number to a Fizz SIM or eSIM.
3G devices should no longer work with any carrier since the shutdown, as far as I know.0 -
Would need a new phone, but the transfer is the same, you need to reply yes to a sms. Maybe he could use a plan without minutes and pay 10c per minute with wallet money, I do this myself.

If he takes a new plan, don't forget to use your referral code when suscribing. So you will both receive the referral prime who will reduce your payment if he keep his forfait for two months.

Welcome to Fizz! If you're in Ontario or Quebec you could set up your dad with a very basic plan (choose the region, then no to data, calling and texts) and set him up with a wallet. As has already been mentioned, calls are 10 cents per minute, and texts are 5 cents. Taxes are extra - I'm in Quebec so the actual charge for most calls is 12 cents (1 cent each for QST and HST).
If you're in a western province, you could just get a call add on for $3.
If you want to have your dad benefit from the referral bonus the plan needs to be at least $20 / month for the first two billings - which is more than the options I've described above. You could set him up with a $20 (or more plan) then downgrade it after the second billing.
I have the TCL flip phone from Fizz. It works well as a basic phone and has good battery life compared to smartphones.
Hopefully your dad can receive and send a text from his existing phone to process the transfer. Otherwise, maybe he could get it manually approved by the provider. In my case, I actually took the old sim out of my old device and temporarily put it into an old smartphone just so I could text back my approval for the transfer. (This may or may not work for others!)

Thanks for answers. I don't know how to directly comment on a specific answer, so here is general follow up.
For using a wallet, that's tricky for my dad. He is not tech savvy at all, hence a flip phone. He uses a phone at random whims, example at the grocery store and needs to call home to check if something needs buying. He probably uses a mobile phone a handful of times a year, but we want him to carry it for emergencies.
Also, for the referral code and a plan needing to be >$20/month—oh oops, we didn't realize that. I just brought on a different family member who used my code, but they set their plan to be $14/month. Since the code doesn't activate until after the 2nd month, can/should they increase their plan now, get the discount and then downgrade the plan?0 -

The wallet is something you add in the account rather than being an app on the phone. It's only available in Ontario and Quebec. Once the funds are there, they will be used for calls, texts or data, as applicable - it will apply for any extras you don't already have on your account (for use in Canada or US only). The wallet is under Manage my Plan > The Extras > Wallet.
I don't know if it would be feasible for the other family member to get the bonus if they upgrade their plan now but maybe a @Whizz can answer this.
