Do you back into parking spots?

Why don't more drivers park reversed?

Hi @Shmutz,
It depends on the situation, but when I can, I usually park in reverse. This is safer when I leave my parking space.

It depends on the situation.

I also think that some people have difficulty parking in reverse...

Where I live, I have to park in reverse.
0 -
Always. Gotta stay ready for a quick escape, just in case.
3 -
Because there is enough space for front parking.

What do you mean? The car takes the same space and for experienced drivers it's pretty rare, I think, to be able to park forward but not backwards due to angles and such.
0 -
Yeah I'm sure, I don't know if that accounts for most drivers who chose to park forward, as it seems more common.

Hi, IMO, easier to park in reverse. And safer in most case

I always try to reverse park whenever I can so I can get practice since I'm a new driver just got my G2

Congrats !

It's an art to park backwards without causing damage! 🤣

Agreed, and safer when move out.

Reminds me of the episode of Seinfeld where George tried to parallel park by reversing into the spot while another dude tried to go forward into the spot; and they fight over which way is right.

It's not like this with all the sensors and back camera.

If you have a small space to park you can not do it with the front of the car without 20 moves back and front. With your back you can do it in one move.

I am talking about a such a small space that doesn't allow you to go out from the car.

True, modern cars don't require any skill.

I don't back into parking spots mostly because I was not taught, but I understand that its probably a lot better to do it that way. Maybe when I get a new car with one of those backup cameras I'll try.0

I learned it with my driving lessons but having a fairly massive vehicle, I'm not sure enough. On a double seat, let's say, I move forward to the front seat so ready to go out.

The question was about the back parking.

always park reverse yes, and toilet paper top unrolling btw

I know, I said I wasn't comfortable and when I could, I parked to get out in front of me. Safer!

I do it sometimes when I'm not in a rush but in some parking lots it's not allowed because in QC the plate is only at the back so it cannot be read.

In the parking lot of the Longueuil metro..

people are in a rush

I don't do it that often honestly.

It makes no sense if there is enough space.

I am either0

While some drivers do back into parking spots, it's not a common practice in most areas. One reason is that it can be more difficult to gauge the distance to the vehicle behind you and potentially damage it. Additionally, many parking lots and garages are designed with forward-parking in mind, making it easier to park and exit. However, some drivers may prefer backing in for ease of exit or to avoid parallel parking.

I love backing in cuz it makes it that much easier to leave when it's busy and tons of people vying for parking spots, like on Boxing Day. Was used to backing in when I had my old car, but got a new car last year and it's even easier with the backup camera.

That's a smart strategy! Backing into a parking spot really does make exiting a breeze, especially in high-traffic shopping scenarios like Boxing Day. Plus, with the backup camera in your new car, it sounds like you've got an even smoother operation going now. It's great how technology can make those little things in life just a bit easie

Me too, but assuming you're gonna move the car again anyway, you don't save any time be parking frontwards, you'll just take longer to exit- which is also less safe to do backwards.

Yeah I think most cars probably have cameras by now

Health and safety rules at my work
Parking in reverse required
I got used to it 🤷0 -
You're right! Parking frontwards doesn't save time if you have to move the car again later. Exiting the spot can be more challenging and less safe when you have to back out, especially in busy areas. It's often better to park in reverse so you can pull out more easily and safely when you're ready to leave.

I always try to back in. For some reason, my wife struggles with this.0

People in Japan park in reverse all the time because if there is ever an earthquake they don't have to reverse out of a parking space and can get out much quicker.
