I'm tempting to switch to Fizz for internet, I've been with Fizz for mobilty but not for internet yet. So I have heard several people mentioning about switching to their own router. Is it a must? I live in a 1k sq ft condo around, my current modem/router is in the dining room which is in the middle of my place if that matters. Thanks
I think you should be ok with the Fizz modem's WiFi.
In most cases for 1000 sq ft your signal should be strong enough.
Is your condo 1 floor or multi level?

You should be fine with the Fizz modem's WiFi. Specially if your condo is 1 floor.
You will be fine with the default router.
Your condo is small enough that signal degradation won't be an issue.
Most people won't notice the speed difference unless you're streaming HD video or something bandwidth heavy.
If you need that bandwidth you can always look at setting up a wired router/pod as an access point.
My condo is one floor, so I wouldn't need to get a new router?
I don't see anything that could cause your WiFi signal to degrade if you are on 1 floor for 1000 sq ft.
Thanks for the reply guys, I've heard the service goes down sometimes, has it ever happened? Surprisingly with Virgin, I never had an issue.
Short answer: no
Long answer: If there are multiple walls between you and your router to your bedroom (for example), the 5Ghz connection will be weaker and your device will fallback to the 2.4Ghz band which has slower speeds but the signal penetrates walls better.
If you really need the additional speed you can look into getting an old second hand router and setting it up as a WIRED access point or in bridge mode to your main router.
It's the Videotron infrastructure so it's as stable as any other major provider.

The Fizz's router is very average. Therefore, if you don't take the 30mbps (which can be handled by the 2.4Ghz correctly in your situation) and you don't have an open space, and you would like to have a good signal everywhere I will consider using your own router or repeaters (I don't like them).
I always prefer to use my own router for the options that I have with it, which are superior to the one offered by ISP.
Moreover, the position of the modem is very important too, if you are able to put in a central position and far from obstacle this will help to cover well your appartement.
With 1 floor, I think you'll be fine
Hi, I chose the 400Mbps, I was not planning to get my own router though as it would be an another expense. With another provider since 3 years I've used their modem/router.

my best bet after you get the fizz mode/router is checking your WiFi signal around the place you need it and whit WiFi analyser app so you can optimize your signal strength by switching Chanel or add cpl mesh pods to cover death zone
try the fizz modem/router first. some of the signal strength/connectivity will depend on how on the wifi of other people in your condo. A better router can give you stronger signal to overcome the interference from others

If you mean Internet cable, then no. They use different type of cable to your home.
I see, how does it if I chose the self installation?
First make sure that you have a working Videotron coax cable wired to your house.
You can ask support to check if your home is wired. They should be able to check using your home address.

You need to log in to your Fizz account or go on the Fizz web page and open the top left menu, choose "help" then "support".
Quick updates, I contacted support and as I don't have a coax cable in my place, they will have to charge me to have someone come over for the installation. Unfortunately, I won't move over, my main motive was to save in the long term. Thanks for the replies though.

Please remember that additional charges may apply for appointments other than the initial one. For example, if you need to relocate your modem and have a new coaxial socket set up in addition to the one installed by the technician during the initial installation.

That it is wrong information, the installation of the cable is included.
You only need to pay if you want to move an existing/working installation
So support gave the wrong information?
The OP wanted to use the self installation option.
The cable, if not present, is included with the normal installation which by default.
The VIP installation which cost 60$ (if I am not mistaking), on my opinion is against the scope of Fizz, which is to be able to do everything ourselves. The VIP installation is, unbox the modem, screw the coaxial cable, plug the power, configure the password.
