Super slow LTE

I live in Cumberland - Ontario and just switched today - inside my house I get a good 2mb download... even though I have 2 bar of LTE sometimes 3. I do have a ticket open but am I the only one? that is super disappointing.. I was with another provider and had a great plan but wanted to try FIZZ to hopefully switch 5-6 family members as they are all paying over 50 per phones.

I'm not bashing or anything - just curious.

    Is your phone VoLTE compatible?

Also you should make sure that in your phone's mobile network settings the preferred network type is set to 4G LTE.

    Hi @Dhral

2Mb is pretty low depending on what you need for.

The VoLTE doesn't impact this, check the if your phone has the right frequency https://fizz.ca/en/faq/compatible-devices#2

Do you already try to reboot the phone?

Are you connected to Fizz or Fizz ext?

If you have an android phone, double-check the APN settings https://fizz.ca/en/faq/what-are-fizz-network-settings-apn

You can always contact the support, https://fizz.ca/en/support , and click on the green bubble on the bottom right of the page in order to chat with them to find the right solution for you.

That’s surprising. Cumberland is in the subscription zone and there is a fully functioning Videotron network there. I’d suggest you contact customer support.

    Toronto, Ontario.

Indoor signal for LTE is fairly weak (-100dbm 30asu) but strong enough to get 4 bars but will drop to 3 occasionally and may drop calls in this state.
I own an android phone so I can choose a preferred network and 3G has great connectivity wherever I am indoors.

I manually switch to 3G while I'm indoors and change to LTE any time I'm outdoors as there is a strong signal but may not be ideal for you as it is a lot of micromanaging.

Yea it can be slow depending where you're at. But overall I'm getting pretty good speed.

I would suggest to contact customer support. It doesn't seem normal.

I have contacted them about it but there's not much to do about it. My phone and relevant settings are up to date so I've just chocked it up to the Pixel 8 modem being a bit flaky as Pixels typically have a weaker modem (Exynos) compared to Qualcomm.

I'm not a heavy data user nor do I receive calls often so it hasn't been a problem for me.

    Speak of the devil…

I just checked it again out of curiosity and it's now -89dbm and 42 asu on LTE which is really good.

Speeds can vary from time to time. It can come from overall use of the communications tower, interference from other networks, conflicts between towers (if you are located at a similar distance from them), etc.

I remember reading about that when I was shopping for my phone. I had it down to the Pixel 8 and Galaxy S24.

The weaker modem of the pixel 8 was one of the factors that influenced my decision to get the S24.

People tend to forget that their own phones have different capabilities regarding signal strength…

These days people put a lot of focus on the cameras. It makes sense since smartphones have pretty much replaced digital cameras.

Most people forget to check on the communication capabilities.

ok here is an update - I drove around and at about 1 km from my house it is getting 120mb/s so it seems like it's just not to my house yet.. like it works but barely.
