Modem connection: RJ11 to Coax

I recently moved and I would like to order the Fizz Internet. The instructions says to plug the coax cable, however, I don't think I have somewhere to plug a coax cable, I only found a RJ11 plug. Does Fizz offer adapters or how do I connect the Fizz modem?

Thank you!

    Hi @Ida

You need to have a coaxial cable, if you don't have a coaxial cable Fizz will send a tech in order to install it. It is a videotron cable, this service is included in the price, therefore you don't need to pay for it.

If you need a referral code, in order to receive 25$ credit at your second payment you can pick mine, is after code in my name or you can pick one from here

Go on their site and check with your address if there is a Fizz connection. They will tell you if the Internet network is available on your location.

You simply need to plan an appointment with a technician, then subscribe to one of Fizz Home Internet plans and go for the VIP installation. The technician will then install, relocated or repair your outlet during the installation appointment.

    Informations here https://fizz.ca/en/faq/i-would-like-to-add-or-relocate-an-outlet-how-do-i-do-this?region=QC

For a new installation if the cable is missing, the technician will install without the need to pay for the Vip installation.

The Vip installation, is to unbox the modem, connect the coaxial cable, and plug the electricity and configure the password.

    Hi @Ida

I checked your status and I see that you are a member for 2020, therefore, probably you had internet in your previous habitation.

Therefore, you need to follow the moving procedure https://fizz.ca/en/faq/im-moving-how-do-i-change-my-address-my-home-internet-service , if the cable is not present Fizz will send a technician.

Sorry, but I understood that the person had been a Fizz customer since 2020 but she had moved to a new place and there was no cable outlet available. So this constitutes a new installation since there is no cable outlet where it moved. She will therefore need to choose the VIP installation since it is clearly stipulated on the link I gave that the technician will then be able to install, relocate or repair an outlet during the installation visit.

I'll give the link in question again: https://fizz.ca/en/faq/i-would-like-to-add-or-relocate-an-outlet-how-do-i-do-this?region=QC

I don't know if it is a client from 2020 for internet or is a new installation

on my first answer, I said that if you're ordering a new internet connection, and the cable is not present Fizz will send a tech to install the cable

after, rereading the question, and also seeing that the member ask for an adapter, probably moved a previous internet connection, and probably forgot to follow the procedure, also in this case if the cable is not present Fizz will install it without extra cost.

We are indeed missing information, namely whether she was only a mobile client or for residential Internet

In the case that there has never been a cable outlet where she moves, the technician will have to install a cable outlet, right? Fizz says that it is the VIP installation that must be taken for this purpose, I may be wrong but that is what is written on the link that I gave earlier. I have never heard of the existence of adapters that plug into an RJ11 outlet to make up for the absence of a coaxial cable outlet. I googled rj11 to coax adapter, there seem to be adapters but this is the first time I've seen this!

I think you're gonna have to schedule an appointment with a technician. You're suppose to have a coax.

RJ11 and coaxial cable are both methods for the transmission of internet data. In Toronto, there are condo buildings where there is a hookup from the ISP to the building. They then use RJ11 in each unit so only a router is required for internet connection. The coaxial cable on the other hand is used to connect to the modem to provide internet. Likely, in the unit there is a place with also a coaxial cable. The best method forward for the OP is like most people mentioned, get a technician to go and look at the place. For homes that can have several coaxial cable outlets, the technician can help to identify which of the coaxial is actually connected to the internet.

The question I ask myself is this: could Fizz (Vidéotron) prefer to install a coaxial cable outlet to ensure reliable service rather than using an RJ11 -> Coaxial adapter? In 40 years of life, I have never heard of it being possible to take an RJ11 -> Coaxial adapter, I have always seen RJ11 outlets then the cable outlet next to it

Ya agree that I don't think a RJ11→ coaxial adapter will work. The most likely case is there is a location (likely in a closet) where there is a coaxial cable hidden.

    @wenhan

Probably the building she is moving into is an old building, there must have only been RJ11 telephone outlets

Otherwise, the new construction and housing standards must require the installation of coaxial outlets. I have not found any official information

    Hello everyone,

We appreciate that you are active and eager to help, it pleases us to see it. Now back to the subject.

It does not matter if a customer moves to or lives at a location where a coaxial socket was not installed, there is nothing to worry about. If the address is within the subscription area and the subscription process goes well, the technician will make sure that the modem will be able to establish a connection, therefore, he will install a coaxial socket.

There is one other case when the website provides you with the option of an appointment without a technician, which means that there was an active connection with Fizz or Videotron in the past. Considering this, a coaxial socket may be installed somewhere, but it is usually covered with furniture for example.

No matter the situation, if the subscription order is placed, the technicians working with Fizz will ensure that your internet connection will be working.

In case you are a tenant, you might need your landlord's confirmation for some holes to be drilled in the walls.

If any of you need more information, feel free to contact our customer service representatives.
    Have a good one!
