Router blocking my garage door opener from connecting to server

My garage door opener in Wi-Fi enabled. I can see on my list of connected devices that the garage door opener is connected to the router and has a strong signal but it won’t program. I contacted the manufacturer customer service and checked that all the router settings are correct (2.4ghz, correct channel, correct security encryption etc.)

The only thing I that is beyond my knowledge and I cannot figure out is “Verify inbound and outbound TCP port 8883 is open.” How do I do this? I don’t even know what that means. Thanks!

    Hi @JessAnderson

Did you separate the two frequency? (2.4 and 5G)

The modification of this option is possible thanks to the mobile application Fizz Wi-Fi:

    Choose: ''My Wi-Fi''

    Select your Wi-Fi network

    Select: ''Advanced Settings''

    Band Steering ''On/Off''

The Fizz Wi-Fi app is available for free at various online stores (Apple Store and Google Play Store).

This change can also be applied through the Wi-Fi modem user interface:

    1. Log in at: 192.168.0.1 from the web browser of any device.

    2. Log in using the following information:

    Username: cusadmin

Password: xxxxxxxx (Password you chose during initial setup)

    3. Go to the next section to apply changes:

    Wireless ->Advanced -> 2.4 Ghz or 5Ghz -> Band Steering (Disable)

Can you try to connect to the modem configuration from the router and disable the ALG?

For the 2.4G you can also modify the Wireless mode to b/g to see it makes a difference

I had a similar problem with my garage door opener, and it turned out to be a router issue too. What helped me was reaching out to a reliable garage door repair service in Burlington.

Buy an amplificator WIFI in your garage. That's the best solution!

As @Jess_i88b6 suggested, I would make sure that 2.4 and 5 GHz are two different connections... I had a similar problem with my robot vacuum

    Hello @JessAnderson

My suggestion is to enable band steering and choose different password for each band.

Check this link to know how https://fizz.ca/en/faq/my-wi-fi-network-cutting-how-do-i-fix-it#4
