Will my Moto x4 (model XT1900, Fi edition) be VoLTE certified by Fizz?
I've been happily using my unlocked Google Fi edition of the North American version of Motorola's moto x4 (model number XT1900-1) since joining Fizz back in June 2019, including in the USA using my Canada+USA plan. Now that the move to VoLTE is well underway both sides of the border I'm wondering if my phone will be certified by Fizz for VoLTE? The only Motorola phones currently in the Fizz list of certified handsets are the moto G 5G, G Stylus 5G, and G Pure. The x4 (XT1900-1) is certainly VoLTE capable as there are many folks using this model on the T-Mobile network down in the States. I haven't received a Fizz VoLTE-compatible SIM yet so can't yet try this out on my handset.

We are all users here, we can not say anything about it. In general if it's certified by other providers it probably will by Fizz

fizz's list is very very far from being up to date, it probably lacks a good 1000 cell phones and more

Thanks Andrei...it would certainly be good to see Fizz certify handsets for VoLTE use that are already certified and being used successfully with other providers. I do keep checking the published Fizz certified list but it doesn't seem to get many (any?) new additions except for phones that Fizz decide to sell themselves. I have my fingers crossed as there is nothing at all wrong with my x4 that warrants replacing it.

@cw61 you have a Canada/US plan you have not received your sim card volte

That was my question also.
@Whizz mentioned that all Canada/US plans supposed to be already migrated by the end of the last week.

exactly what i was thinking

I think that once they do a complete release of volte services they are going to add a lot of devices to the list. However, hard to tell if a specific device is gonna be added even though it's totally compatible...

@Sébastien code ZXEL1 , @Andrei_ref_R7VK1 Sorry for the delay. Yes I have a Canada+US plan but have not yet received a VoLTE SIM. I'm not planning my next trip to the US until probably June and so will wait to see if one turns up in the next few weeks. If not I'll just go ahead and order a replacement online and see how that works out. Thanks!

Order your SIM as soon as possible, for me the VoLTE is working better in Quebec. I was able to use yesterday, and I was able to make calls in a zone that before I had difficulty to do it.

Good to know

Do it now instead of waiting for Fizz.

Yeah! I agree with both

Thanks all...a new VoLTE-capable SIM card has been ordered. Fingers crossed that it "just works" 😁

Well, my new VoLTE-compatible SIM arrived after a couple of weeks, but just a couple of days before I set off for a 3+ week trip to England. So I wasn't going to go down that rabbit-hole immediately before being out of the country for almost a month. (BTW, when travelling to the UK I use a contract-free local SIM from giffgaff on the O2 network in the UK with unlimited calling, texts, and 10GB of data for £10, or about C$17, for 30 days...including roaming in a bunch of European countries if needed.)
Now that I'm back in Ottawa I activated the new VoLTE-compatible SIM today, waited for my phone with the old SIM in to go into network search per the instructions on the Fizz site, and then swapped SIMs. However, there was no magical provisioning or revealing of the VoLTE options on my phone and, sure enough, when I made a call it wasn't using VoLTE as I saw the mobile data connection change to H+ for the duration of the call.
I waited for over half an hour in the Chat window for a Fizz customer service agent (I was 20 in the queue to start with), but all they did was point me to the following page...
https://fizz.ca/en/faq/compatible-devices
...to highlight that the Motorola moto x4 (XT1900-1 version, google_fi software variant) is not "Fizz VoLTE Certified" and that I'll have to buy a phone that is listed there if I want to use my Canada+USA plan when roaming in the USA. Not particularly useful I'm afraid...especially knowing that there are T-Mobile USA customers already happily using VoLTE on this phone down in the States.

Well, 😞. Do you know whether your account is migrated to VoLTE as well? Just little chance of success but still...

I'm not sure @Andrei_ref_R7VK1. I did ask the agent if they needed to perhaps do something with my account but they replied that "Fizz doesn't have that technology", which really confused me. Having read some other threads here in the discussions I see that some early adopter users like me (June 2019) with the Canada+USA plan were receiving notification back in April and May that their account had been migrated to VoLTE. So perhaps that's what still needs to be done for my account. I can sit tight for now as I have no immediate plans to travel south of the border.

Understood, so looks like your account is not yet migrated to VoLTE. You can still contact customer support and ask them to migrate it. Hopefully your calls will be on VoLTE after that 🤞.

I don't know what "Fizz doesn't have that technology" means honestly... probably that they cannot do the migration specifically for you but that it's an automatic process?! I sincerely have no idea...
