VoLTE Questions from a Potential New Fizz Customer
Hi!
I live in the Montreal area. My cell phone plan with Koodoo will be ending this summer and am seriously thinking of switching over to Fizz.
However the Fizz VoLTE compatibility puzzles me and certainly makes me hesitate.
First of all, my phone Motorola Moto G Power 2021 shows up as VoLTE certified at T-Mobile, at AT&T and numerous other carriers.
It also appears as VoLTE certified at Videotron (which I believe owns and operates Fizz):

However my phone is not listed on your “Fizz VoLTE Certified phone list”.

Is this dependent on your Fizz Sim Card? If so, will it be updated when I join?
If and when I switch over to Fizz, I intend on choosing Unlimited Canada and USA Minutes and Text Messaging plus 2 Gigs of Data.
Will I then be able to use my phone across Canada and USA even though it might not be listed in the Fizz compatibility list?
Any insight would be very appreciated.

Fizz still doesn't support volte anyway! but they're working on it. So I guess it should be up and running later this year!

VoLTE will probably work on your phone if it works with Koodo, plus Videotron is VoLTE, and the network is the same, so it should work.

I'm in the same situation as I own a pixel 4xl, which is not on the fizz list. However I am a fizz customer since 2021. Now I ordered a volte sim card for free to be ready when fizz will deploy volte for old customers. Let's see...

At the moment, if you have a VoLTE sim card with a compatible device, not all services are available with Fizz in the United States. They will become available as of Spring 2023.
If your mobile plan was activated before March 16, currently only mobile data will be able to function and you will not be able to make any phone calls.
As a workaround, if you need to make a phone call while roaming in the United States, you can apply the following steps:
Go in your phone at: Settings -> Data mobile -> Network selection. There you can disable the automatic selection and verify if in the area you are there is any T-mobile 2G network. If there is, manually connect to it and you will be able to make phone calls and send text messages.
T-Mobile’s older 2G GSM network will be retired only as of April 2024 which allows you to be able to make phone calls and send text messages

I was with Koodo last year. The only downside I have is the cellular network availability is not good vs Koodo. But it's cheaper and I liked the option to share the unused data.

We already have LTE.. that's only about the speed of data transfer.
VoLTE stays for voice over LTE, therefore you are going to use internet data to have better call quality and stability, on the basis that also the other person talking with you has volte

No it does not. However, it uses the faster LTE connection that is currently used for interned data to better process the calls
