How can I add the VVM if I still have the plan from 2 years ago and do not have a voice mail?
Does that mean I have to change my whole plan?

Yes, if you wish to use the visual voicemail your plan needs to have the basic voicemail option included and also mobile data.
If you don't have one of the above you need to make a plan change to add it.
