SMS (2-factor authentication) issues

I wrote to the CWTA (Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association), which seem to deal with short codes in Canada, about 2 weeks ago to get some answers.
They made me do a test to see if short codes was the problem by texting to one of they're short code test number. And I received a reply from them. This is the only SMS from a short code I received since I'm on Fizz network.
The person told me she was going to contact Fizz to see what was happening. I didn't get any news since...
I still can't access my Paypal account...

@Kristoffer L. , Kudos to you for taking the time!27
-
@Jim B., yup, I'm with you on that one. Can't access my PayPal, and had to call multiple companies to remove 2 factors for the time being, until they fix it, but I guess I'm just gonna go back to Koodo.
I hate having to rely on any company from Quebec, but when I saw Fizz, I had hope for the first time, it seemed pretty sweet. Now I regret moving to Fizz, and I'll stick to avoiding all Quebec companies once again.27 -
Hi Folks,
The good news is that many companies that require 2 step verification by SMS are currently working i.e. (Uber, Apple...TD) The bad news - we're still missing a few.
Jay29 -
Give us a list or something. "A few" is not an answer.
This is more and more frustrating for the community. Be clear, show us you care, give an official statement. Still no MMS, no LTE, no short text messages, random blackouts, random SIM restart, helping button disappearing...28 -
Whizz,
You've mentioned that 2FA is working with TD bank now - just tried it and I'm not receiving any texts from TD.
thanks!27 -
I just tried switching my 2FA from BMO, AMEX, PayPal, Gmail, Hotmail and others. Only Facebook worked for me. Will try again in 201925
-
I can also confirm that TD does NOT work.25
-
I can also confirm that Fizz customer relations does NOT work.24
-
It’s been a month since this was posted. Is there any ETA to have this resolved?25
-
Short code SMS for flights notifications from YUL airport not working as well.25
-
Whizz (Jay), You mentioned Apple as working which doesn't seem to be the case here. Nothing being received from Apple.

Please add Paypal and google to the list.24

Ive got issues with uber cant receive their sms code ....i assume that is the same issue right with the 2fa?21
-
Hi Rob,
We're still checking this on your account and we'll keep you informed via email.
We recommend until then that you choose alternative options to get those confirmations like e-mail for example.
Thanks for your understanding.

Hi Tommy,
This a a known problem that should be solved within the next weeks.
Thanks for your understanding.
Luciana22 -
If you are still working on resolving this, why did you email me yesterday saying the issue is resolved and automatically closed my ticket?!20
-
Hi Sean Smith,
We understand that some of your are still experiencing some issues with receiving texts from TD. We are still investigating this issue, I am sorry.
Thx for understanding.

Am pretty sure ALL of us TD users are having issues receiving 2FA texts from TD... not just some.19
-
For Paypal, to make matters worse, we can't even receive a phone call to get confirmation. Call rings but hangs up a few seconds after. So basically locked out of Paypal. Not too happy for the amount of time it takes to resolve this issue...18
-
Sebastien P., I can't believe you're experiencing the same issue as me. I opened two threads about this, one for SMS, and the other for not being able to pick up paypal's call and it going to voicemail.

My way to login in PayPal:
Enter password
On next screen I click on "Having trouble logging in?"
On next screen I click on "Answer your security questions".17 -
G-Pay sms authentication also not received18

Hello guys,
This issue is known by our specialized team and we are working around the clock in order to fix the it. Most companies offer an alternate mode of communication. We recommend you choose one for now, and we will inform you when things are up and running.
Thank you for the understanding.

Whizz (Ionut),
SMS is just as important as alternate communications - this needs to be fixed as not everyone can do voice. For example, I'm unable to understand what's being said verbally over the phone hence on the reliance for SMS in 2FA.
thanks!19 -
This is unbelievable, 2 months and still not working?!18
-
Hi,
We understand your frustration.
We're working hard to improve, and we appreciate your patience and understanding.
Have a nice day!

can't auth sms from UBER17
-
It didn't work for me yesterday so 2 months later.18
-
Glad this issue is being addressed. The fact that it's been open for 2+ months, however, is worrisome. This seems to affect a lot of people's (including myself) business correspondence.
The other day I wasn't able to perform an eTransfer with a new recipient. Today I wasn't able to update my credit card info linked to an online profile.
Anw, I'll be following this issue now that I've left a comment. Good luck fixing this.17 -
Hi Guys.
just failed to receive verification code from Wechad, QQ.
It stops me to set up account .17 -
Same issue for Telegram and Quebec City Snow-Operation SMS17
-
it's not a difficult tech to solve the problem if you want to do it. Your company make a big problem to your client. You should know many important app need verification code like to transfer money. Pay bill etc . How your company does not care about this issue?17
-
To add onto John Y. comment - I would love to ask exactly what needs to be done and what's the issue Fizz is facing in fixing this. What are the steps involved to fix this issue? Since Fizz is the discount arm of Videotron and two Fizz employees (from my understanding) are Videotron employees - why not ask Videotron for the solution?16
-
I doesnt work for any service i need17
-
Yes, the problem persists. Patience is almost exhausted. I really have no choice. I will give it another 30 days and then I will switch providers.17
-
I'm also very close to jumping ship due to this issue. I haven't been able to access to one of my bank account for over a month. Luckily it is just for saving, but it would have been a major problem if it was my main bank account..17
-
Adding to this, I can't login to Salesforce.com because of this 2-FA SMS...which is a huge problem for me as Salesforce doesn't offer another way to authenticate. I might have to switch to another provider because of this major issue. Concerning that this hasn't been resolved in 2 months.15
-
I'm locked out of my Paypal account. I've called Paypal - they told me to talk to my provider Fizz.17
-
Have to give up fizz because of this issue after ran out all of my patience. Jumped back to my previous provider and everything is just back to work. bye.17
-
2 months and still nothing. Come on guys this issue is obviously affecting serval customers and yet still no solution. This is a serious problem.
It should not be hard for your tech support to replicate and fix. Is there any ETA on resolution? How much longer should we expect our 2fa sms notification to not work for?17 -
Pushing 3 months now...
Couldn’t verify my Amazon account yesterday while on the phone with them so now it’s messing up my order.
The lack of progress updates and constantly closing my tickets saying the issue is now resolved makes me want to switch back to my previous carrier.17 -
Yes, it's more like 3 months, not 2. Unbelievable...16
-
Time for updates Fizz team, we all need to be finally able to use our 2fa accounts...17
-
Can't Fizz get Videotron's help or pretty much copy over whatever Videotron has in place for their SMS? it is just unfathomable to me that it is taking so long for Fizz/Videotron to figure this out. Videotron isn't innovating here.
In the states, every month there is a new 3rd party Mobile Virtual Network Operator pops up, offering T-Mobile, ATT, Verizon, or Sprint's services just like Fizz, and all of those providers that I have used in the states, nearly don't have as many issues regardless of how new they are.17 -
This might be slightly off-topic but this is a goos article to read regarding the vulnerability of 2FA :
https://www.zdnet.com/article/new-tool-automates-phishing-attacks-that-bypass-2fa/
Personally, I have been thinking of moving to Yubi Keys. You can find them on amazon.ca by searching "Yubi Key".
Here's a low cost option: https://www.amazon.ca/HyperFIDO-Mini-U2F-Security-Key/dp/B01LZO0WE9/16 -
I would also like to get some Google Titans, but hard to get an a little expensive now. But this showed that we can't rely only on a phone provider (or anybody else). You have to have plan B.15
-
Just got an email from Fizz saying this issue is now fixed and to test it but it STILL DOESN’T WORK!!!16
-
I just tested and it's still not working.16
