I've never gotten any SMS nor does it show up in my settings7

Hi,
Go to Settings -> General -> About and look for Carrier. It should be written Fizz 34.1 next to Carrier. If it's Videotron 34 or something like that, that's where the problem comes from! Make sure your Wifi connection is on and go back to About ->Carrier and there should be a pop-up window, accept whatever it says and your data should work!10 -
Mine started working after I threw in a videotron sim, connected to data, then swapped it out for a fizz sim... might be worth a try if you have on lying around.7

In addition to going to Settings / General / About and updating the Carrier to Fizz 34.1 by using the popup that appears when you activate your WiFi connection, you should also make sure you have installed the latest iOS version, which is 12.1.
