Why is 942 area code in Toronto long distance?
I would like to know why landlines from businesses in Toronto are informed they are calling long distance why they call my 942 area code phone number.
I was informed this area code was put into effect April 2025.
Thank you Fizz support team in advance for your help with this concern.

Hello Fighting_NFLDR,
Thank you for your message.
The 942 area code is a new area code introduced on April 26, 2025, for the Toronto region. It was added as an overlay to the existing 416, 437, and 647 area codes to ensure there are enough phone numbers available for residents and businesses in the area. Existing phone numbers were not changed, but new customers may now receive a 942 number. If some businesses are being notified that they are making a long-distance call when dialing your 942 number, this is often related to the configuration of their phone system rather than the number itself. When a new area code is introduced, some business telephone systems, PBXs, or call restriction settings may not yet recognize the new area code as a local Toronto area code. In fact, organizations that use systems with long-distance restrictions were advised to add 942 to their list of local area codes when it was launched.
As a Fizz customer, there is no action required on your part. The issue would generally need to be updated on the calling party's telephone system. If a business continues to experience this problem, we recommend that they contact their telecom provider or system administrator to ensure area code 942 is correctly configured as a local Toronto area code.
I wish you a great day!

This would be a problem at the carrier(s) that those businesses use. You havebto get them to fix it.
As you have mentioned, this area code 942 has been assigned to Toronto for over a year now. So, Fizz is doing nothing wrong by assigning it to Toronto customers.
