Can I request to disable hotspot?

I have my son on a Fizz plan and to get around his screen time limits, he's turning on his hotstop so he can connect his other devices to the internet. Can I request to have this feature removed from his plan?

The Hotspot/Personal Hotspot feature cannot be disabled by the network carrier, as it is a function that is built directly into the device's operating system and settings.

In most cases, hotspot availability and controls are managed by the phone manufacturer and the device software rather than by the mobile network itself. As a result, if the hotspot option is available on your device, it cannot be remotely turned on or off by the carrier.

If your concern is to prevent the use of mobile data through the hotspot feature, you may wish to consider changing to a plan without mobile data or removing the mobile data allowance from your son’s plan. I don’t think there is anything you can do with the access you have to your Fizz account settings.
For this type of request, you should contact support directly.

Hello,

Currently Fizz does not have this option.

My option would be lowering his plan to the bare minimum (1gb or 2gb based on the province) so he will not be able to use Internet via hotspot on other devices.

Since the hotspot can't be blocked on the Fizz side, you can:

Set a restriction code on their iPhone/Android to prevent hotspot activation.

Use Screen Time (iPhone) or Family Link (Android) to block access to network settings.

Prevent the addition of new devices or limit usage hours.
