Today, I received my modem to upgrade my old speed (500 Mbs) to new speed (960 Mbs). I removed old modem, installed new modem without any issues except one. We have several devices connected via wifi and 2 devices that hard wired directly to the 2 ports on the modem.

I have unsubscribed old plan and activated new plan.

The problem is that my wife's 1 month old laptop (15 inch macbook air) which is hardwired but 30 feet away from the modem gets the 960Mbs speed while my 4 year old mini pc which is 2 feet away and hard wired to the modem only tops 350 Mbs.

I have reset the modem, checked wires, tested network with app and chatted with support but no change.

Any ideas?

    Hello trapa,

Thank you for letting us know about this situation.

I verified your account and I can see that you made an unsubscribe request for the internet plan with the lower speed. However, the deactivation date is tomorrow.

As you currently have two internet plans active at the same address with two different speed options, the plans are overlapping which can cause some irregularities with your connection.

This issue should be resolved automatically once your plan with the lower speed is deactivated tomorrow. After the plan is deactivated, please restart your modem to ensure you receive the correct speed.

In case you still encounter issues tomorrow, please contact us again from the support page for further assistance.

We appreciate your understanding in this situation.

    Have a good one!

If you're using a VPN, it must be disabled to perform a speed test.

    Otherwise, contact support.

    Hello @trapa ,

I am sorry for the situation encountered.

Verifying your modem our tools it is online,a ll the modem signals are within the limits and the modem provides a speed of around 980 Mbps.

The speed difference can happen because your wife’s newer MacBook Air uses more advanced network technology, while your older mini PC may have a network card or hardware that can’t fully support gigabit speeds. Even though both are connected by cable, the device’s capability plays a big role in the result.

Your mini PC is older, and its network connection isn’t as fast as your new MacBook. Even though it’s closer to the modem, older PCs sometimes can’t reach the full speed of modern internet plans. This could be due to an older Ethernet port, cable, or network settings.

I invite you to consult our FAQ too:https://fizz.ca/en/faq/my-wi-fi-network-not-working-its-slow-or-it-cuts-what-do-i-do

    Than you for your cooperation.

    Have a nice day.
