Poor Indoor Signal - Advice need
Hello,
Hello.
Overall, my experience with Fizz has been mostly positive, especially outdoors. However, I've been having issues with signal strength inside buildings, particularly in downtown Toronto.
At work, I don't mind the weaker signal too much, but I usually only get one bar on my iPhone, showing it's connected to the Freedom Mobile network at home apartment building. The signal is often too weak to support clear calls—I frequently hear static or noise—and the data speeds are quite slow as well.
Interestingly, the signal improves significantly as soon as I step outside my home or office building.
Is there anything you can suggest to help improve my signal, at least while I’m at home?
Thanks in advance.

Hello @hansolo,
Mobile signal can sometimes be reduced inside certain buildings due to thick concrete walls, metal structures, low-floor units, or even nearby network congestion, but we do have a few steps that can help improve your reception.
Sometimes your phone may hold on to a weaker tower.
Try to reset your network settings by going into Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Network Settings
Turn Airplane Mode on/off it quickly refreshes your connection to the network.
You can also try this when cellular is weak enable Wi-Fi assist via Settings → Cellular → Wi-Fi Assist.
If the situation persists I advise you also testing with another phone if you can.
If you need further assistance with this please reach us at https://fizz.ca/en/support
Thank you for your kind understanding and cooperation.
Have a good day.

Where can I find a signal booster? If you don't mind, could you recommend one?

You should check with another phone if you have this possibility.

Yes, I tried using both a Pixel phone and an iPhone 16, and the signal remains very weak on both devices.
Fido (Rogers) or Bell's signal were/are pretty strong though...0 -
There are a few suggestions:
1. What model is your phone? It's possible, the signal isn't even that bad at your place, but your phone is not picking up all the required Freedom Mobile frequencies.
2. You can manually select the Fizz EXT network with the best signal at your place and see how long Fizz tolerates it. The official statement is, majority of your use must not be on Fizz EXT network for more than three months.
3. If you have Home Internet, use WiFi and get yourself a home phone / VoIP number. The latter are not expensive.
4. If you have Home Internet, switch to another carrier that offers WiFi calling.1 -
Install a cell signal booster.
Several stores sell them, even online.1 -

Settings->Cellular->Network Selection->Automatic:off
Wait for the scan to finish (may take a minute or two), then select one of the Fizz EXT entries.1 -
Install a cell signal booster. Several stores sell them, even online.
There are a lot of them around though that advertise "All Canadian carriers" only to then neither list Vidéotron nor Freedom Mobile in the list of supported carriers.
