Travel to USA for 5 days...is it better value to change plan or add-ons?

I'm flying to the US for 5 days and staying with 3 American friends I need to stay in contact with during my stay. My current local plan is calls and data within BC, no texting.
Just wondering if it's worth to change to a different plan for USA coverage or just do add-ons? I already have 1gb data perk for USA travel...is 1gb enough for 5 days? I just need text and phone coverage while in US. My main question is if I change my current plan for a different plan with USA coverage for my trip, can I change back to my regular plan when I return home to Canada?

You can try an app such fongo or an addon
If you modify your plan, you need to do it before the next billing cycle and you need to wait the next billing cycle before have it, and when you change back you need to pay the actual price which can be different.

If you are having a super good plan in BC please don’t change it , add some funds for emergency calling. If your phone supports eSIM try to install a US eSIM like tello . It has pretty good US only plans. I used it earlier

Yeah, I have a very good plan in BC, so I'm very hesitant on changing plans because I'm afraid I might not return to the same pricing after my trip. My trip starts in a few days from now. And I do have esim.

    Oh I see :(
My billing cycle just passed last week, so I'd have to wait another 3 weeks to change. My trip starts 4 days from now.
Yeah, I have a good pricing with my current plan and want to keep it rather than pay the actual price later.
I guess I'll go with add-ons or travel esim instead.

@cloddie then try tello.com , you just need a US address and PayPal account I guess. I remember it gives unlimited data with 2g speeds , useful for gps and basic browsing.

You can change plans and revert to a regular local plan upon your return. your current plan may no longer exist, but there is surely something similar if not better for you to switch back to!

It really depends. Both of the plans I have are now twice as expensive than what they were back in March when I got them - with less data then what I have now. So, you should really be careful when changing plans and know exactly what you are doing.

    Hello @cloddie ,

If you are traveling to the USA, you can buy a Travel-add on for data, calls or texts.
It can be bought from My plans, Manage, Travel Add-Ons. They are active immediately. They’re valid until the end of your next payment cycle.
Also, you can add money into your Wallet and pay per use.
Another option is to change your plan to Canada& USA coverage, the change will be effective starting the next payment cycle as we are prepaid. Once it is effective, you will be able to use your services in USA too.
    Please consult our FAQ too:https://fizz.ca/en/faq/im-travelling-outside-my-coverage-zone-what-are-my-roaming-options
Thank you for your kind understanding.
    Have a nice day!
