Transferring an existing number to Fizz while overseas

Hi there,
I am currently overseas, and been maintaining my Canadian phone number with my existing provider (Fido) because I will return to Canada eventually. My current Fido account has a temporary suspension, which allows me to keep my number but not use the phone while I'm away for a small monthly fee. However, I can only do that for 6 months max, and that deadline is approaching. So, I will either need to start paying full monthly cost for a phone number I'm not using at all, or leave Fido.
What I would like to do:
- Move my current Canadian number to Fizz
- Maintain the cheapest possible plan while I'm still overseas
- Once I'm back in Canada, ramp up to a different Fizz plan
Can I do that? Is there anything I need to be mindful of when setting this up? For extra context, my phone is an iPhone 12, so it should support eSIM (though I've never used one). While my Fido account has the active temporary suspension, I can't receive calls or texts at that number.
Thanks in advance for your help!

You need to receive a text from Fido if you’re are transferring your number to other provider.
I think you can transfer number to Fizz while in overseas .0 -
If you are able to confirm to your old provider you want to port out, there shouldn't be any problem doing from overseas. However, I've never done it myself
