Unable to call British Columbia from Manitoba?

I need some help figuring this out. I am temporarily traveling within my coverage area (Manitoba) my account is up to date and I should have unlimited calls yet when I attempt to call British Columbia I get this message:

Action required: Your current plan did not allow you to complete this call. Please buy an Add-On https://fizz.ca/s/15/en/168048563/

I was under the impression that calls from your coverage area and within Canada would not incur additional charges. Is there something I am missing?

If your coverage area is Manitoba, this is expected. You have unlimited calling within the province of Manitoba only. For outgoing calls to BC or any province or territory other than Manitoba, you have three options:

    • Change to a Canada-wide Fizz plan
    • Buy an addon, My plans → Manage my plan → The extras → Add-ons → International calls (yes, this is no mistake, don't ask me why) → Canada. It is $6 for 60 minutes, valid for the remainder of your current billing cycle plus the entire next cycle (so, 1-2 months, depending on when you buy)
    • Put money in your plan's wallet My plans → Manage my plan → The extras → Wallet for a rate of 30c per minute, plus tax. Valid indefinitely. Note: If you have multiple plans, each has its own wallet.

    That's interesting.

like you I assumed coverage refers to mobile service and not to call destination but apparently that's incorrect as the phrasing of fizz coverage in this link does refers to destination:

"Use your Fizz account to check whether a destination is included or not in your coverage area. Once logged in, under your mobile plan, click on Manage / Add-ons. Enter the destination."

Thanks everyone! Yes, I assumed "coverage" only limited where I was going to travel and use the service since unlimited nation-wide long distance was part of the service I was sold. This strikes me as a limitation.
