Getting H+ only instead of LTE

Things I have tried:
1. Reset my network settings
2. Manually reset my APN following this (https://fizz.ca/en/faq/what-are-fizz-network-settings-apn_gl=1*1a6h6u2*_gcl_au*MTIxODI0NDM2LjE3NDI1MDMxMTU.*_ga*MjA1MDc4MjI0OS4xNzQyNTAzMTE1*_ga_J34MDEW0ZM*MTc0MjUwMzExNS4xLjEuMTc0MjUwMzMwMy4zNy4wLjkzOTM0NDkyNg..*_ga_KLF9QGG329*MTc0MjUwMzExNS4xLjEuMTc0MjUwMzMwMy4zNy4wLjEyOTE2NjM2MDM.)
3. Hard reset my phone (power-cycle)
4. Turn off my phone, take out and re-insert the SIM card.
Sometimes enabling roaming gives me 4G, but sometimes it doesn't.
Thanks

It seems, a problem with the tower that Fizz is using near your location, can you try the SIM to a different phone?
You reset the network settings, therefore, the network operator should already be configured in automatic, can you try to double check
For a short period you can use Fizz Ext, but you cannot use for more than 3 consecutive months

Leave your roaming on - there is no roaming charges with Fizz.
Do you have a Canada plan or a provincial one? If you don’t have a Canada plan, this could be your problem.
Btw, I live Winnipeg MB. I have an iPhone and have been on EXT since I joined in June 2024 without issues.
Cheers,
Brad

Here's what a service rep told me about this a while ago:
"Roaming is required as the phone moves from a Fizz network to a partner network, including any partners in Canada or in other countries, however, rest easy, as with Fizz, there is no roaming charges when you leave their network.
Access a partner network on mobile:
The expanded coverage zone is for our mobile clients who travel in specific regions not covered by the Fizz network. It is intended for occasional coverage, and applies to both Quebec and Canada.
The majority of your usage (calls, texts and data) must be done on the Fizz network.
We reserve the right to interrupt or block access to our network of partner providers if you use your mobile service primarily on their networks for 3 consecutive payment periods."

Yep - for sure that is what it says. I just know that when I ordered my sim in June of 2024 the web site said my home was in the subscription area but I have always had EXT displayed at home on my phone and have never had a problem with Fizz contacting me about being on EXT for month after month.
I can't explain it - maybe I am on a Freedom tower that displays EXT on my phone and Fizz doesn't care because Freedom is an affiliate of theirs?
BTW, is your plan provincial or Canada wide?

If I am not mistaking you are from Manitoba which is different from the other province, and you will get only Fizz ext

Manitoba neither has Vidéotron towers nor does it have Freedom. So, your phone always displaying EXT may be perfectly expected in MB. If you look at
you'll find that none of Manitoba is in Fizz' main subscription area but portions of it, mainly Winnipeg and the southern shore of Lake Manitoba, are in Fizz' extended subscription area. Which, as far as I can tell, just means, primary or exclusive use of Vidéotron's partner networks is accepted in these areas.
Depending on what phone you have, you can check what network you're on if you interested. On iPhone, dial *3001#12345#*; on Android use an app such as Netmonitor, ForceLTE or Net Analyzer. They all show numeric representation of the network you are attached to.
Either 302 XXX or MCC: 302, MNC: XXX. For the XXX,
220 is Telus
490 is Freedom
500 is Vidéotron
610 is Bell
720 is RogersMCC = Mobile County Code. 302 is Canada.
MNC = Mobile Network Code0 -
Good morning and thank you!
I have been trying to figure out, using we sites that purport to display tower locations and owners, which Towers I am connecting to in Winnipeg.
One site, identified a single tower as Fizz in downtown Winnipeg - but that must be a mistake.
And apologies for using the wrong term, I am indeed in an "Extended subscription area" not a "Main subscription area".
Thank you also Elena for the clarification - I don like to provide incomplete information here :-)
Cheers,
Brad

This is curious - I "called" the number using my iPhone - and the display it came back as Fizz LTE.

you need to check the line network plnm

As Elena as mentioned, these are the numbers that you are looking for. As you can see, I am on Freedom Mobile as I am in Toronto, ON.

@elena code xzi4t @MobileFizzer_VBMV6
Gotcha - PLMN = 302 610 so I am connected to a Bell tower.
Very interesting - thanks again!
This chat I am gonna save as no doubt I will be dialling that number just for fun as I travel around!

This is actually, not that surprising.
SIM cards have a priority list of preferred network providers for roaming. For example, mine says:
302 490 Freedom
302 610 Bell
302 270 Eastlink (does that still exist?!)
302 720 Rogers
302 220 Telus
302 780 SaskTelSo, getting onto the Bell tower is expected if you don't have Vidéotron or Freedom coverage. Since it is the next highest-prioritized network the SIM card should register with.
Surprising only in the sense that everyone seems to think that Rogers is the network Vidéotron customers roam when in an extended coverage area.

Hi,
I have gone through all of your responses and I really appreciate your input here. However, I am still having the issue - not getting 4G but H+ instead - as of right now. Like I have said, I have enabled roaming for all trip but the internet connection is sporadic. My plan is Canada nation wide and I live in the main subscription area.
The only thing I haven't tried now is testing the SIM on another phone...... which I will need to find one.
Again thanks for the answers here.

@jasonau12345 Gotten a little off topic here, sorry.
Would you mind telling us what phone you use? And given the instructions above, would you be able to identify what network(s) you are on, both when seeing the 4G as well as when seeing the H+ indicators? As far as you know, do you experience this only at a certain location or region or do you see it also when travelling? And you said, this only started a couple of weeks ago and before then you've never had this issue? Did anything change at your end when this started? New phone, phone firmware update, moved to a new location? Ever rooted the phone and customized any settings not normally available on the official firmware?
You could try do manual network selection on your phone, both Fizz and Fizz EXT, use the method described above to identify what network you are on and try of you can tie the H+ indicator to any one network or networks.
Also make sure to do all the obvious things: Run the latest firmware on your phone, accept any carrier settings upgrades and, if you're phone is Android, follow steps number 2 and 3 here:
In case of iPhone, go to Settings→General→About, see if you get any Carrier Settings Update popup as in step 4 in the link above. If you do, accept it. Check that under "Carrier", it says Fizz 62.0
If you're phone allows it, manually check what your APN setting is. It should be mobile.bm
If you ever rooted your phone, return to official firmware.
In the firmware settings, where you can choose what type of networks to use, make sure that 4G is included in the selection and it is not being set 3G/UMTS/HSP(D)A/WCDMA only.0
