5Ghz network not working / does not appear
Hi,
I had band steering enabled and the 5Ghz was not working. All my devices speed were around 5mbps even at a distance of 1 foot of the router.
I tried disabling band steering and separate SSIDs, the 2.4Ghz appear but the 5Ghz does not (on any of my phones, computer and tv).
I tried factory reset.
I tried deplugging and waiting 2mins then replug.
I tried with the router admin page (192.168.0.1). I tried with the FIZZ mobile app.
I tried crying.
I tried to pray.
I tried support (still on with them, and I had to RETRY the fact/reset, restart, mobile app).
I suspect an hardware or software problem.
Any ideas or did this happened to someone?
Cheers,
Marc

Hi install Fizz Wifi apps for test your connection. Ask to support to check your modem.

Hey Marc,
That sounds incredibly frustrating—I appreciate your humor in a tough situation! 😅 It definitely sounds like a hardware or software issue with the modem, especially since you've tried all the standard troubleshooting steps.
A few things you can check or try before pushing for a modem replacement:
1️⃣ Check for Interference – If there are a lot of other Wi-Fi networks nearby, the 5GHz signal might not be broadcasting properly. Try changing the channel manually in the router settings (192.168.0.1 > Wireless > 5GHz > Channel Selection) and set it to a less crowded one (like 36, 40, 44, or 48).
2️⃣ Test with a Wired Connection – If your speed is fine over Ethernet but still bad over Wi-Fi, it’s more likely a Wi-Fi issue with the router.
3️⃣ Try a Custom DNS – Some users have reported improved stability by changing the DNS settings to Google’s (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare’s (1.1.1.1).
4️⃣ Check for a Firmware Update – Sometimes, the modem's firmware needs an update to fix performance issues. You can check this in the Fizz app or the router's admin page.
Since your 5GHz network isn't even showing up on any of your devices, this really sounds like a hardware issue. If none of the above fixes work, I’d push for Fizz to replace the modem—especially since you've already done resets and gone through support steps.
Hope this helps! Let us know if you find a fix (or if crying/praying eventually works 😆)."

I think the updates are pushed automatically, I did not found any ways to update the firmware manually.
I also tried changing to different channel, bandwidth, toggling enable wifi, toggling show SSID, etc.
Nothing is working. :(
A technician will come and it will cost me 60$ if it's my fault, but I'm pretty sure it's not after all I have tried…0 -
Have you try apps for diagnostic?

It sounds frustrating to deal with these Wi-Fi issues, especially after trying so many solutions already. You're right, firmware updates are generally pushed automatically by Fizz, so you shouldn’t have to manually update it.
Since you’ve already tried changing channels, adjusting bandwidth, and toggling Wi-Fi settings without any success, it could potentially be a more technical issue with the modem or even a compatibility issue with your devices. If you’re confident that everything on your end is set up correctly, the technician should be able to confirm whether there’s a deeper issue.

I've had similar issues with routers before when dual-band or automatic band selection was enabled.
If possible I would suggest turning off one of the bands (Either 2.4 or 5 Ghz) and test again.
Have you trying using an Ethernet cable (RJ45) instead of wireless to rule out a bandwidth issue?1 -
I didn't encounter this issue till now.

Hi
What you are describing seems really to be a problem with the modem since, you already tried everything, regarding the 5Ghz.
Regarding the speed, you should try to test with an ethernet cable, to see if you have any different speed.
Did you try to contact the support, they have tools to test remotely your modem.
@Whizz you should check the signal to see if you can detect some problem

The 5g wifi signal is very weak for this modem. You can try connect to another AP

Turned out it was an hardware problem :)
5G network was indeed not working as my diagnostic tools were showing.0 -
Fizz changed the modem and now its working all fine
