Hi,

Just to make sure before buying a new phone just to be compatible with Fizz volte. I have a samsung S10e that I love and is in perfect condition that I bought at fizz a couple of years ago. When i go on my profile under My phone, I see my S10e and it is written this :
VoLTE certified YES

Also, one of the latest badge I earned is the VoLTE one.

So, i don't quite understand why when I phone the number Fizz gave us to check compatibility that the message tell me that my phone is not compatible. I also use the SIM card with the red lightning bolt on it.

I also know that on the compatibility list, only the S20FE onward are compatible but I know that my S10e also have the hardware to be compatible.

Does anyone of you have the S10e and if so, can you confirm that I have to buy a new phone. Last question, does anyone know if this phone is compatible on other carrier network that have the volte in place.

Thank you all for your help

    Hi @HABS

It gets a little complicated. Just because a phone is VoLTE capable, does not mean it has been certified to run on the Fizz network. Then again, Fizz won’t prohibit it if it just happens to work anyway.

    From the Fizz FAQ:

“Now, the question on everyone’s lips, why are certain phones VoLTE certified for some Canadian operators, but not for others?

A mobile phone’s VoLTE certification is the result of a technical and commercial agreement between the manufacturer and the operator. Because each operator sets its own requirements and certifications, a given phone may be compatible with VoLTE for one operator, but not for another.

Here are the reasons why compatibility may differ between operators:

    • Separate certifications: Each operator must certify the compatibility of a given phone with its own VoLTE network. If an operator has actively participated in this process and requested that the phone be compatible with its VoLTE configuration, the phone will be able to use VoLTE on that operator’s network.
    • Various VoLTE configurations: Operators may use slightly different technical configurations for their VoLTE service. A phone that is certified with one operator may not be compatible with another operator’s configuration.
    • Launch date: If an operator launches their VoLTE service and certifies a particular phone, that phone may not be compatible with another operator’s VoLTE if that operator has not yet launched their service or has not yet included that phone in their certification process.
    • Certification cycle: The certification process of a phone can continue for a few months following its commercial launch. If a device is declared non-compatible with an operator’s VoLTE configuration, it is rare for the manufacturer to modify the phone afterwards to make it compatible.

Note: If you bring your own phone, and that phone is not on our list of VoLTE-compatible phones, it could still have the VoLTE feature and be able to place calls on the LTE network. Fizz will not, under any circumstances, block or prevent the operation of VoLTE on a phone that hasn’t been certified by the company. If the phone is compatible with the Fizz VoLTE configuration, it will be able to make VoLTE calls. However, we cannot guarantee the proper functioning of that VoLTE service on our network.”

For me, this is the best carrier I have used in the 25 years that I have had a cell phone. With the money I save (I saved 85.00 a month when I switched two phones in June of 2024), I could easily buy a new phone off their list every year and break even.

    Cheers,

    Brad

    Hi @HABS

The Samsung Galaxy S10e is equipped with hardware capable of supporting Voice over LTE (VoLTE).

However, compatibility with Fizz's VoLTE service depends on specific factors, including device certification and network provisioning.

You should check the list here https://fizz.ca/en/faq/compatible-devices#3 regarding the S20FE is the 5G that is certified. Be sure that the phone is on the list and for the Canadian market to avoid any surprise. Check on your perks, you are supposed to have received a perks to buy a new phone.

Multiple people wrote before you with the same problem, and yes is not compatible

We cannot suggest other providers, sorry

It's not compatible with Volte here, at least it's not in the list:

How do I know if I can use my own phone with Fizz? | Fizz

Check your model to see if it is from Canada.

    Canada: SM-G970W

    Europe: SM-G970F/DS

So normally as they are certified before the release or sale, this model dates from 2019, it will become non-functional at Fizz for voice after July 31 if it is still not compatible with #8378. Make sure you have the lightning bolt on the SIM card, which confirms that it is VOLTE compatible.

You might need to enable VoLTE in the phone's SIM or network settings and reboot.
Some operating systems also show a VoLTE icon at the status bar when it is enable.

Here's a video I found looking for the model you mentioned, but you might need to look for a more specific guide.

Sorry OP wrote is not compatible

So, i don't quite understand why when I phone the number Fizz gave us to check compatibility that the message tell me that my phone is not compatible.

The phone support VoLTE but is not certified by Fizz, therefore, is not compatible with Fizz

He literally wrote it is compatible. As the phone is purchased from Fizz and also stated as volte certified under his account in fizz.

"I have a samsung S10e that I love and is in perfect condition that I bought at fizz a couple of years ago. When i go on my profile under My phone, I see my S10e and it is written this :
    VoLTE certified YES"

PotatoStarch's suggestion is likely the best. You can also confirm if volte is work by making a phone call with wifi turned off and see if it stays on lte or falls back to 3g.
