Extremely high network latency?

Hi, I am in Toronto and whenever I do a latency test with a server in Toronto it is always over 200ms. This is extremely high, I never went above 50ms with my previous provider? @Whizz

The problem that the gateway is in montreal, this will add some delay. Fizz with their expansion must take in consideration to improve it

"Some delay" is 200ms, that is unacceptable in 1995! @Whizz

It will depend on whether you are on the Vidéotron or the Freedom network. Despite Fizz not charging it as such and hiding all the roaming indicators, from a technical point of view, using the Freedom network is still roaming. All the data is tunnelled to the home network, Vidéotron in Québec, first, before hitting the Internet. Just go to ip.me website, it says, accessing the Internet from Montréal, QC, even though I am in the GTA. And that adds some latency if you are on Freedom. It isn't as bad though as it is reported here. Yes, the initial (first packet) delay when pinging a Google server can sometimes be 200 ms, but for subsequent packets it goes down to a average ping of about 60 ms.
And hey, it isn't all bad. Free integrated VPN into another blackout region...🤫
