Iphone 7 - Supported or Not?
I am confused about this point because:
(1) I see posts from people in the fizz forums using an iphone 7, at least one as recently as three months ago.
(2) Fizz's "How do I know if I can use my phone with Fizz" page lists the conditions:
* Compatible with the Fizz network.
The answer seems to be yes as it explicitly states an iphone 7 or more recent is needed when only LTE is available (and 3G dropped). The point about Apple accepting the Fizz 50.0 settings seems also ok going by others successfully using an iphone 7.
* Able to support the frequencies of our network
Seems to be yes.
* Certified VoLTE with Fizz (not required before the 3G network withdrawal, but nonetheless recommended)
Not certified but this is only recommended since 3G & LTE are still here?
(3) I attempted to connect an iphone 7 using a fizz sim card (with lightning bolt so volte capable) purchased at a local Circle K recently. An error came up indicating not supported or similar. I also successfully transferred an iphone 14 (not using this email account in case fizz reps are looking in) so I do know how to follow the correct steps.
I am aware that 3G will likely disappear sometime next year and that fizz/apple may never support volte on an iphone 7 but what I would like to do is ride this iphone 7 on fizz until I am forced to either switch carrier or decide to get a new phone. This phone is meant for a child and I am not really interested in buying a new phone yet when it is working perfectly well now.
So the question is: are there actually people using iphone 7 on fizz, can I use an iphone 7 on fizz until 3G is gone or am I SOL? I am suspecting the new sim cards being sold cannot be used in an iphone 7 whereas older ones may have been fine but it would be nice to hear a confirmation.
Thanks for taking the time to read the story.

yes you can use iphone 7. there is the toggle in setting to enable volte. one thing to note is that the antenna in iphone 7 is quite weak so often the phone is not able to get good connection with the network. this result in things like when other people call the phone, the callers will have no dial tone and majority of time the phone connects to fizz ext

Thanks wenhan - I will have a closer look at it and doublecheck ios version & settings.
It was a sim card error that came up which prompted my confusion but the same sim card works fine in the iphone 14. Fizz's online support stops rather quickly at "iphone 7 is not supported" since it's not on the fizz list so I don't think there will be any help from fizz itself.
In any case, I will report back here what ultimately happens in case anyone else stumbles across this thread.0 -

Hello @A_A ,
Thank you for your post and the provided question.
As the other users already informed you, for the moment, your iPhone 7 will work with our mobile services. It is possible that some features will not be fully available since the model is not onto our official Volte Compatible devices however, until we will fully pass on the Volte network, you can use the phone.
Here are more details regarding the subject:
I wish you a wonderful day.
