What is the best way to extend 5Ghz from Fizz Router

Good day,

My fizz router is located in a room on the first floor. My TV is on the ground floor. I am able to connect on the tv using the 5Ghz wifi but it does break from time to time.

I have read many posts but I am getting confused with all the answers.

My aim is to get full capacity of the 5Ghz wifi. What is the best solution I can go for (Use another router which will be connected to the fizz router and be in the same room or Use a wifi range extender, etc)?

Apologies in advance if there is already similar posts like this which I could not find.

Thank you

Rama

Another option, which I use in my home to bring Wi-Fi to different zones, is to get powerline adapters.

You plug one in near your modem and the other one near your TV. This will bring wired high speed Internet near your TV (by using the electric wires in your home).

Then get a dheap router and plug it in to the powerline adapter near your TV.

You then configure the router as a wireless access point. So you will have full power 5Ghz right near your TV. You are basically adding a 2nd WiFi network to your home.

With this setup you don't need to bridge the Fizz modem since the cheap router is not routing, it is acting as an access point.

This ends up giving you faster and more stable WiFi speeds than just using access points.

The best solution for you is to use another router in bridge with the Fizz one.

    Hi @RamaBoochia

I personally like to use my own router, since I don't like the wifi extender, and with my own router I can have multiple functionallity that I like to have

Is it worth buying this router? https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/asus-wireless-ax1800-dual-band-wi-fi-6-router-rt-ax55/14969404

    Hi @RamaBoochia

I have a different Asus and I like it, probably you should try this before (if you buy from bestbuy you can always return without problem)

Disable the band steering on the Fizz's mode, and connect the TV using the 2.4Ghz on my opition you will get a good chance to have it working

Here how you can do it

2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi band steering

Wi-Fi band steering is a technology used to deploy dual Wi-Fi bands that allow compatible devices to
primarily use the more powerful and less problematic 5 GHz band.

With the band steering function, only one Wi-Fi network name will be displayed. Each compatible device will automatically connect to its optimal frequency (2.4GHz or 5 GHz) to make the user
    experience seamless.

Modifying this option is possible thanks to the Fizz Wi-Fi app:

    Choose ''My Wi-Fi''

Go to the settings (gear wheel icon)

    Activate/Deactivate the Band steering option

The Fizz Wi-Fi app is available for free on:

    Google Play

    App Store

The Fizz Wi-Fi app is available free of charge in the Apple Store and Google Play Store.

You can also adjust band steering using Fizz Wi-Fi modem user interface:

    1) Open a web browser on any device and navigate to: 192.168.0.1

    2) Connect using the following information:

    Username: cusadmin

Password: xxxxxxxx (enter the new password you selected during initial configuration)

    3) Navigate to to the following section to make any changes:

    Wireless ->Advanced -> 2.4 Ghz or 5Ghz -> Band Steering (Disable)

You'll need your Wi-Fi network password. If you can't remember it, you'll need to recover it.

How to recover my Wi-Fi password

Depends what you're trying to achieve. Max speed? Add another router and put your fizz router on bridge mode. Extra range? Then get a wifi extender. Maybe even get both.

Best option is like BeakBird mentioned. Your issue is likely distance or signal degradation through several levels of floors. Unless you have an extremely powerful router, setting up something in the same location as mentioned by other posts won't help. You want to be able to have a broadcast hot spot near the TV. Also make sure to adjust the shape of the router antennas as the wifi signal comes out as a donut shape

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will try with a powerful router first. If it does not work, I will buy the powerline adapters. Really appreciate all your help.
