Calling Canada from Dominican Republic

I am stuck in the Dominican Republic and need to contact people in Canada. I bought the International Calls add-on but no one can reach me, and I can’t call out.

With FIZZ, you CAN'T make or receive calls OUTSIDE of CANADA/US.

Your international call addon is for you to CALL those location, when you are in your subscription ZONE (QC, Canada, US). Not to be reached around the world. So you effectively bought long distance minutes to use, to call those destinations, when you are home.

And the "Travel addons" that are available for some areas, are at best for Data and text messaging only, NOT calls.

Important : You will not be able to make calls while roaming outside your Canada or the United States.

Roaming calls (incoming or outgoing) will be available at a later time. We will update this FAQ when we have a firm date.

In the meantime, you will be able to use data, and send/receive texts when you travel outside your coverage zone. To make and receive calls, you can use messaging apps such as WhatsApp or Messenger.

And right at the TOP of that FAQ, Fizz even states:

We recommend purchasing a local SIM card. This will give you access to better rates on data. Helpful tip: use messaging apps (whatsApp, Messenger...) to stay in touch on the road instead of calling and texting.

This is PRETTY standard for any PREPAID mobile service. If you want better roaming options when travelling, you will need to go to a "PostPaid' service.

Hello, I suggest you connect to WIFI and install a reputable calling app which allows you to call international numbers. I haven't used any but there should be multiple valid options, just check reviews and for excessive permissions before using. If you have to pay anything to use the app, I suggest you use your credit card, easier to dispute any charges with your credit card company than a bank.

My suggestion would be to purchase a SIM card in the Dominican Republic. This will give you the opportunity to call to Canada at relatively low prices. Just look with some providers, and you will certainly find a plan that suits your needs.

I am sorry to hear about this situation.
As our members mentioned, you won't be able to make or receive calls while outside the coverage area.
The call add-on you mentioned is for making calls from Canada to the Dominican Republic.
While you are there you can only use your mobile data if you buy a travel add-on.

You can also try getting a local SIM card if it's mandatory to make a call.
