Let's see... I'm not sure about that
yea me neither
Awe that sucks :/
Wishful thinking I guess :) haha
Innovation = Fizz
Who's gonna purchase Freedom?
videotron purchased freedom,
I didn't know that! Thank you for clarifying
It happened like 2 weeks ago
Still, I didn't know 😅
Don't worry about it! it's ok! 😅
press release : https://www.quebecor.com/en/-/qu-c3-a9becor-compl-c3-a8te-l-acquisition-de-freedom-mobile
some interesting content 😲
1. Ensure that over a period of ten years, Freedom’s plans will be at least 20% more affordable than the equivalent plans currently offered by the incumbents in the British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario markets;
2. Maintain prices for Freedom’s existing customers for five years. Existing Freedom customers will also automatically receive a 10% increase in their local data limit at no additional cost. In addition, Freedom will participate, within its wireline footprint, in the Connecting Families initiative available to low-income Canadian families and seniors, as Videotron already does;
3. Invest more than $150 million to upgrade Freedom’s infrastructure, which will, among other things, enable 90% of its customers to access the 5G network using a compatible device within two years. Quebecor has also committed to keeping Freedom’s spectrum licences for at least 10 years after they are transferred.
Wow, thanks for the insight.
thanks for the news
Yeah but I don't think we can do anything about it
Thank you for that
You are probably right!
unlikely to change anything anytime soon...for many reasons.
Big telcos have no incentives to bring cost down for consumers and enhance competition nationwide.
Quebecor #1 priority is to expand out of his home province Quebec and conquer new markets in western Canada where it doesn't operate : recruiting new clients is amongst its top priority....not lower cost
quebecor spent $2.5 B in both equity, debt and loans : they have to recover that $$$ not burning it with price wars
Rogers spent $23B, suffered a massive outage, must comply with Honorable Minister Champagne order (better services and costs)
all in all, c-r-t-c should be shutdown (seems useless , incompetent and lack independence) : too much conflict of interests with telco on board !!
create a brand-new independent Authority with legal power to enforce competition nationwide.
in Europe, local gov. hugely emphasize on energizing competition, lower costs, provide better service in rural areas, force big telco to open their network to MNVO (Mobile Network Virtual Operator) which greatly speed-up innovation and affordability.
so dont expect any change. enjoy your fizz plan
Wow thank you for all the data and info!
What else is left to say?
Ohhh ok thank you for letting me know :)
You guys think there is a chance that the cost will go down in the future or they will keep climbing and climbing?
Yes, probably, but never enough… It will go down drastically when outside competition comes in, period.
the packages its always like its the lowest it's always at Christmas its rise its rise in September it starts to go down again and ends at Christmas lower than the previous Christmas
Good to know!
Yeah but those are only promotions. I am talking about average prices going down like in the rest of the world. I don't think it's a very accessible market for external competitors
You mean it’s NOT an accessible market for external competitors…
Don't hold your breath guys, big telecom will not decrease the prices any time soon. They will continue to simulate that they are trying to do this, and will give you more gb but not deacrease the price. The only way they will be forced to do it, it will be only when a big player will enter the market and will cut down the prices. Until that time - nothing will change.
Yeah exactly! You are totally right!
When and how that's gonna happen though? How an external competitor can enter the market?
Federal government has to change the law…
Yes, to reserve some of the 5G bands to a newcomer.
Let's see if this will ever happen...
Like Vasiok said, don’t hold your breath
2022 Mobile data chart (source : Cable.co.uk)
"..Regionally, North America is the most expensive overall, with an average cost of $4.98 per GB, which is higher than the global average of $3.12. Canada is the most expensive of the region ($5.94), followed by the United States ($5.62), while Greenland is the cheapest ($3.36)"
South Koreans are way worst off ! !
Thank you for that!
Reading this I had a look at the plans in Italy... 15€ for 100 GB + unlimited minutes and SMS.
Can't wait for Fizz to reach this level :)
Look better, you will find even better offer, last here I got a SIM for 6.99 and 120G, with the call to canada included :D
Or check this 0
My god… we are light years away from that!
I think whit the competition the price can only go down
Beautiful graph! Thanks for sharing
Yeah, you are totally right!
Let's hope so!
Videotron is expanding to the West by buying Freedom Mobile and promising to drop the prices.
Yeah but still, we’re not about to see those kind of prices…
It's too early, it happened just last month. But hopefully it will start soon.
