Shortly and simply:
- on your keypad, long-press "1" (This may vary between different phone models)
- you need minutes (you are ok if your plan is unlimited minutes), an active plan with that feature in it and be in your coverage area.
- Alternatively, dialing 1-514-647-0999 from any phone should do it

Dialing 1-514-647-0999 should work. Otherwise on the IPhone in the call app, there should be a dedicated button for voicemail. I never hand problems with that.
Dialing the full number always works though.
