Transferring number from old provider?

I am trying to keep the same number from my old provider (koodo) and I did it once with my phone but when im trying to do it for another phone the IMEI is incorrect but I have called koodo multiple times and its the same number. any ideas ?

Do you have a protection against the transfer in koodo?
Did you try with the contract number?
The IMEI is the phone slot identifier, if you have 2 slots, you have 2 IMEI

Dial *#06# on your phone to get your 15-digit IMEI number.
