The muscle system is in the know of the totality of the subconscious/consciousness of a person, when a person is making a statement that is true, the muscle is strong; when a person is saying something false, the muscle is weak, (interestingly, when a person is lying but didn't realize oneself is telling a lie, the muscle is also weak, like the subconscious of the person is aware of the lie even through the ego won't acknowledge). With consent, a muscle test master can test on behalf on others. As long as the person testing is not purposely interfering, and as long as the tester is cleared of external interference. It could be used in discerning the truth of someone. In Academics, it is called Kinesiology, google says the earliest person uses it is 1912 Robert W. Lovett, MD, but it is very possible that there are earlier human historical appliance of this but not documented.

I have read a little bit about it back in the days I am pretty confident it's real, like a lies detector

True! As long as the tester has mastery and is clear of interference, the test result is pretty accurate. Speaking of detecting lies, even without the muscle test, we can detect lies with our intuition. Often sensitive people receive signals from the body when someone is lying to them.
