How old is your phone?
My phone is a month away from being 6.5 years old. It was a hand-me-down, and I've only used it for a year. It's an iPhone, so it's still usable, but a little slow. I can't really leave the house without a portable battery, though. Was going to buy a refurbished one from Fizz at the beginning of the year, but they got rid of the purple stamp on the phone I was looking at, so I changed my mind ![]()
Anyone else hang on to their phone as long as me? When do you usually decide to get a new phone?

I change them approximately every 2 to 3 years

I hung onto my previous one for 5 years, but I was running into issues like not being able to get the latest app updates and then my phone fell out of my pocket, and the screen shattered, so I thought I might as well switch.

3 years is the best time since the battery is guaranteed for 2 years.

I'm finding the battery on my 7 month old phone doesn't last as long.
I'll probably replace it after a year because of that and it is slow.0 -
Almost one year old, my previous one was 3 yrs old

Got my current phone, a Motorola G7 Power, August 2019 because my previous phone fell out of my pocket, so it is close to 6.5 years old. It's still usable but the battery doesn't last as long as before and it no longer receives security updates for the Android OS.

Keeping a phone 6+ years is actually pretty impressive. iPhones in particular tend to age better thanks to long software support, but the two issues you mentioned — slower performance and battery life — are usually what push people to upgrade eventually. Needing a portable battery all the time is a very common sign that the phone is nearing the end of its practical life.
Many members here say they replace their phone when one (or more) of these happens:
The battery no longer lasts a day, even after optimization
Apps or updates start to feel noticeably slow
The phone stops receiving important software or security updates
The cost of repairs (like a battery replacement) no longer feels worth it
Others stretch things out with a battery replacement, which can give an older iPhone a second life if everything else is still working well.
Refurbished phones are a great option value-wise, so it’s understandable to be disappointed when a deal or perk disappears. Sometimes those offers do come back, though, so it can be worth keeping an eye on them.
