I don't think I will buy this one.I did and I'm not regretting it (upgraded from iPhone 13).
I read that computer memory is getting pricier (thanks to AI) and that next year's smartphone might have a price bump.

True. The cost of memory is getting ridiculous.

Meh, same thing. not that much of improvement to be honest

Not much, I agree.
Improvments are mostly centered around the camera for most use cases, but I'm planning on using it for dev work also. The USB port at 10 Mbps speed is a huge upgrade for me, that's why I ended up with the pro model.

True. The cost of memory is getting ridiculous.
Some rumors suggest that newer model of smartphones might ship with less memory than previous models, but I doubt it. I would be difficult, from a marketing point of view, to spin that decision positively to customers.

That’s a fair point, and your skepticism makes sense.
At this stage, it’s important to remember that anything about the iPhone 17 is still purely rumor-based. Apple has historically been very careful with hardware downgrades that are easy for customers to notice, and reducing memory would indeed be difficult to justify from a marketing perspective, as you mentioned.
If anything, Apple usually handles these situations by:
Keeping memory the same while improving efficiency through software and chip optimization, or
Differentiating models (for example, base vs. Pro) rather than lowering specs across the board.
So while rumors can be interesting to discuss, there’s no concrete information yet suggesting Apple would ship a newer iPhone generation with less memory than its predecessor. Until official announcements are made, it’s best to take these claims with caution.

The iPhone 17 is already here, I guess you meant the iPhone 18 ;-)
I would also be very suprized if Apple reduces the amount of RAM in their next device, but other brands might be tempted to do so. Again, this is all speculations.

Good catch—you’re right, that was a slip. Thanks for pointing it out 😊
And I agree with you: it would be very surprising to see Apple reduce the amount of RAM in a future iPhone. Historically, Apple tends to keep hardware specs stable or improve them, relying on software and chip optimization rather than obvious downgrades. As you mentioned, other manufacturers might be more tempted to make that kind of trade-off.
At this point, though, it’s all still speculation, and we’ll only know for sure once official announcements are made. Thanks for contributing to the discussion!

Apple has always been experts in managing their component supply chains.
They are probably less likely to be affected by memory short supply than most other manufacturers (except maybe Samsung, which designs and manufactures it's own memory chips).0 -

They are probably less likely to be affected by memory short supply than most other manufacturers (except maybe Samsung, which designs and manufactures it's own memory chips).Apple has built a very robust and vertically integrated supply chain, which gives it a huge advantage when it comes to sourcing critical components like memory. They often pre-purchase large volumes in advance and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, so short-term shortages hit them less hard than many other smartphone manufacturers.
Samsung is a close second in this regard since, as you mentioned, it designs and manufactures its own memory chips, giving it similar insulation from supply shocks.
For most other brands that rely on third-party suppliers, memory shortages can more easily translate into production delays or increased costs. Apple’s approach, combined with their massive scale, allows them to keep their products on track even during global component crunches.
