I have poor Wi-Fi signal - Would my solution even work ?

So my wi-fi is pretty bad. My PC gets 100mbs when plugged, but the 2.4G wifi gets max 25mbs when in front of the router, and 4mbs in my toilet, like max 20feet away, behind a wall. The 5G managed to get 100mbs once in front of the router, but disconnects in the toilet. It's a one room apartment, the toilet is the furthest point from the router. I'm not able to use Band-steering because I have smart lightbulbs that only use 2.4G, which is another problem (If anyone has a solution for that, let me know)

It seems the issue is because of a bad placement. The coaxial cable sticking out of my wall is so short that I'm forced to put my router inside my TV cabinet , made of metal, right next to my TV and gaming consoles. Also, it's plugged to a power bar, which is apparently bad according to Fizz.

I'm also wondering if there could be some interference with other devices. Since my apartment is just one big room, I have a bunch of devices close together. I have an AC unit 13 feet away from it and my microwave is around 15 to 20 feet away.

I'd like to put the modem/router next to my computer, in the center of my apartment, I would need a coaxial extension cord around 15feet in length for that. I'm worried this will impact the overall internet speed, will it be fine? Would that even work? I'd also be forced to plug it to a power bar, is that also fine ? Finally, are my microwave and AC unit too close ? (They can't be further than that)

    Hello @bobBrandon,

Thank you for letting us know about this.

I have made the necessary verifications in our tools, and I see that there are some small fluctuations in the signals received by your modem. Please make sure that the coaxial cable is properly connected at both ends and make sure it's not damaged.

Also, having your modem in a metal cabinet and close to a TV and gaming console can affect your Wi-Fi connection a lot due to interferences. The other devices that are more than 10 feet away should really affect your connection that much. It is recommended to keep your modem at about table height on a wooden surface preferably.

Moving your modem to a central point of your home should improve your Wi-Fi connection. You can use a coaxial cable that's 15 feet, as that length should really impact your connection. However, if you want to have a new coaxial outlet installed, you can contact us from the support page to schedule an appointment with a technician.

    Have a good one!

It could definitely impact speed. I would opt for either an ethernet cable from router to PC, for those distances there shouldn't be any noticable latency with ethernet.
Another option is to use ethernet over power adapters or an AP/WiFi extender.

But I'd check to make sure devices configuration are good first, I.E WiFi channels and protocols on both router and clients.
