Do I have to change phone with the 3G network withdrawal?

I have a LG model LM-G900UM and it is 4G compatible. My SIM card has the red lightning, so it is VoLTE compatible. However, the test to know if my phone can use the VoLTE network fails. Do I have to change phone? Or do I have to change service provider, one that can provide the 4G service? Thanks!

You need to reach Fizz support to see if your phone are VoLTE compatible with Fizz or not.

It gets a little complicated. Just because a phone is VoLTE capable, does not mean it has been certified to run on the Fizz network. Then again, Fizz won’t prohibit it if it just happens to work anyway.

    From the Fizz FAQ:

“Now, the question on everyone’s lips, why are certain phones VoLTE certified for some Canadian operators, but not for others?

A mobile phone’s VoLTE certification is the result of a technical and commercial agreement between the manufacturer and the operator. Because each operator sets its own requirements and certifications, a given phone may be compatible with VoLTE for one operator, but not for another.

Here are the reasons why compatibility may differ between operators:

Separate certifications: Each operator must certify the compatibility of a given phone with its own VoLTE network. If an operator has actively participated in this process and requested that the phone be compatible with its VoLTE configuration, the phone will be able to use VoLTE on that operator’s network.
Various VoLTE configurations: Operators may use slightly different technical configurations for their VoLTE service. A phone that is certified with one operator may not be compatible with another operator’s configuration.
Launch date: If an operator launches their VoLTE service and certifies a particular phone, that phone may not be compatible with another operator’s VoLTE if that operator has not yet launched their service or has not yet included that phone in their certification process.
Certification cycle: The certification process of a phone can continue for a few months following its commercial launch. If a device is declared non-compatible with an operator’s VoLTE configuration, it is rare for the manufacturer to modify the phone afterwards to make it compatible.
Note: If you bring your own phone, and that phone is not on our list of VoLTE-compatible phones, it could still have the VoLTE feature and be able to place calls on the LTE network. Fizz will not, under any circumstances, block or prevent the operation of VoLTE on a phone that hasn’t been certified by the company. If the phone is compatible with the Fizz VoLTE configuration, it will be able to make VoLTE calls. However, we cannot guarantee the proper functioning of that VoLTE service on our network.”

For me, this is the best carrier I have used in the 25 years that I have had a cell phone. With the money I save (I saved 85.00 a month when I switched two phones in June of 2024), I could easily buy a new phone off their list every year and break even.

    Cheers,

    Brad
