873 area code in Ottawa

Hi, I understand that area codes are assigned based on postal code. I live in Ottawa and have a K1J postal code. For some reason Fizz assigned me an 873 (Quebec) number when I signed up, and it doesn't seem to let me change this. The only options available to me are 873 numbers. Can someone confirm if this was a mistake? What do I need to do in order to change to a 613, 343, or 753 number?

Hi, We would have to see with their support in this case. https://fizz.ca/fr/soutien

At this point I would try contacting customer support and see what's the best solution to fix the number assigned

Try to change phone number and refresh to see if you can get a 613, 343, or 753 number.

Since you are close to the border, you were probably connected to a QC repeater when creating your account and the system selected automatically a QC number. This is the only thing I can think of. I think you can change your number though

When you signed up for service were you on the QC or ON page?
You could try Fizz's change number feature in accounts or sign up with another local mobile service provider then port that number over.

Thanks all...I was in the ON page when I signed up and the sim card I activated was the one Fizz sent me by mail. When I try to use Fizz's change number feature it just rotates through different 873 area code numbers. I contacted their chat and they said I would need to activate a new sim card and plan...not really a good solution considering I like my plan and its no longer offered by Fizz. All I want to do is change my number, but it's looking like this may not be possible without a new plan.

If area codes are assigned based on postal code, you'll still get 873 area code if you create new plan.

Did you by any chance activate a Québec plan rather than an Ontario plan? As they are different. Could that be why the system is insisting on assigning you a Québec number?

Well, I guess, they are not always, because @FizzGuy stated that he had registered from an Ottawa K1J postal code.
@FizzGuy Did you getter the SIM card from Fizz in Québec? When I ordered my SIM card a few months back, to be delivered to the GTA, it came from a Freedom Mobile warehouse just west from here.

Yeah I think the SIM card was shipped to me from Quebec...that plus my postal code being close to Gatineau may explain why...but either way seems like an incorrectly assigned number on Fizz's part.
I will try my luck with their support again, although my first attempt wasn't helpful.
