Hi @Negrea

I don't think so. Right now it's not working if you go to US.

Depending on what A03 you have, I assume it is Samsung, it may or may not be certified. Apparently, there are two types of A03, the A03 Core and the A03s. The latter is certified the former is not. I have the A03 Core and it does in fact not work for VoLTE, at least it didn't a week or two ago when I tested it.

As a follow-up, most of you are probably already aware, Fizz now officially confirms 3G phase-out to start July 31st. It is in their FAQ now.

Yes, thanks
At Videotron, we plan to phase out the 3G network as of July 31, 2025

Does this phase out apply to Freedom Mobile as well?

I think, yes, Videotron and Freedom are both Quebecor.

In my opinion: I don’t think Freedom will phaseout 3G that soon. It still fallbacks to 3G in basements/cellars and spotty areas. And Fizz operates under freedom network in GTA.
Also Freedom/Fizz’s 3G/LTE works on AWS band 4 frequency not like other big 3. So I don’t think they phaseout 3G on band 4.0 -
It only depends who is the parent company. Fizz is Videotron, so it is 31july2025.
They are very clear, you can dial #8378 to check, best regards.

Not necessarily. Both networks, Vidéotron in Québec and Freedom in the rest of Canada were originally planned, designed and built by different companies with different business strategies in mind. Thus, I'd expect there to be differences in how much effort and cost are involved to make it all 4G/5G-only.

Their original strategies are no longer valid. Take Shaw, as example, nobody really remembers JR Shaw. I still hope they will not be able to shut it down. The dominant technology is LTE, so the question is not how much it cost the conversion, it is how much it cost not to shut down 3G. New phones are insane, my 2014 S4 has a huge aftermarket battery, 10 days standby time, double case and still weights less than any modern phone.

Since in QC Fizz works on the Videotron network, do you guys think Fizz's phasing out process corresponds to the one communicated by Videotron?

For sure, they will use the same HW

It's highly likely that they do. If Vidéotron is shutting down its 3G transmitters, where would Fizz get any 3G signals from? The only option would be to 3G-roam on somebody else's network, given those don't also scrap 3G at the same time. Still highly unlikely given the ownership structure of Fizz.

Therefore I will be definitely forced to change either phone or carrier before this happens, since Fizz doesn't seem that keen to include more old-generation phones in their volte certified list… That is honestly a bummer

I would like to know if the old phone will ring in the new configuration. I will still use it and switch SIM only if I have an important call.

I have two certified phones from Fizz, an A03 and A12. Called #8378 and the A03 is not passing the test. Very strange, everything configured, LTE, apn.
