Questions From a Potential New Fizz Customer

Hey everyone. I’m exploring carrier options and for some reason, only now discovered Fizz! I can’t believe I didn’t know about it before.

I’m not currently with Fizz, but in going through the website, I think the flexibility would suit me well.

I was wondering if any of you would be so kind as to have a look below at the assumptions I’m making about the way Fizz works, and let me know if I’m correct or if I'm misinterpreting anything. Thanks in advance!

First, are these assumptions correct on how Fizz would work:

1. I usually use about 1-2 GB of data per month, occasionally a bit over two. So, I’m thinking if go with the 6 GB plan, with the data rolling over, by the third month of service, I’ll have way more data than I will likely ever use and could possibly even downgrade for a month or two.
2. I don’t use voice minutes very much at all. Most of my few calls are on FaceTime. I was thinking of not adding unlimited minutes to my plan, and choosing the $3 - 60 minutes add-on just for the odd call; essentially giving me two months of calling at $1.50 per month.
3. 95% of the time I am only using my phone in Ontario (GTA). So I was thinking I could go with the Ontario only plan. If I travel elsewhere in Canada or to the US, I can switch the plan in advance (my understanding is your new plan takes effect on your renewal date) so that it’d be active when I’m travelling. Then, switch it back to Ontario for by my return date.

Finally, a couple of questions on having an Ontario only plan:

a) If I temporarily upgrade to Canada or US plan for travel, will my accumulated data/minutes add-on be valid in those locations as well?
b) Would my voice minutes add-on be valid for calls I make only to numbers within Ontario? (Assuming incoming calls are okay)
c) Am I able to send texts to anyone, regardless of their location (elsewhere in Canada or international) as long as I have the unlimited text option on my plan?

If I’m calculating things correctly, I’m looking at a plan that suits my needs and would cost me only $17.50/month ($16 + $1.50 minutes add-on) most of the time with only the occasional extra to add Canada or US travel. That seems kind of too good to be true!

Sorry for rambling on so much, just want to be sure before I port my number over.

Thanks in advance for any feedback or advice you can offer!

Hello! I'd be happy to clarify your assumptions and answer your questions about Fizz's services.

    Assumptions:

    1. Data Usage and Rollover: If you choose a 6 GB plan and typically use 1-2 GB per month, the unused data will roll over to the next month. Rollover data is valid for the two following billing cycles. This means that by the third month, you could accumulate a substantial amount of data. However, if you decide to downgrade your plan, be aware that you don't have any guarantee to get the same price when you switch back https://fizz.ca/en/plan-change-policy
    2. Voice Minutes: Opting for the $3 add-on that provides 60 minutes is a cost-effective choice if you make minimal voice calls. These minutes can be used over the next billing cycle or until they're fully consumed.
    3. Coverage Area: Selecting an Ontario-only plan is suitable if you primarily use your phone within Ontario. You're correct that plan changes take effect at the start of your next billing cycle. Therefore, if you plan to travel, you should adjust your plan accordingly before your billing cycle renews. Fizz suggest to change at least 6 days before the next billing cycle. https://fizz.ca/en/faq/how-do-i-change-my-mobile-plan

    Questions:

    a) Accumulated Data/Minutes Validity: If you upgrade to a Canada or US plan for travel, your accumulated data will be valid in those locations. The minutes cannot be accumulated, and you need to have an addon for the new zone.

    b) Voice Minutes Add-On Validity: With an Ontario-only plan, the 60-minute add-on allows you to make calls to numbers within Ontario. You need to buy another addon to call outside your coverage zone, for example Canada or USA

    c) Text Messaging: With the unlimited text option, you can send texts to any number.

Your calculation of approximately $17.50 per month aligns with Fizz's flexible and competitive pricing structure. Many users find Fizz's customizable plans to be both economical and well-suited to their needs. You need to add taxes

Also remember to use a referral code to get 35$ credit at your second payment, you can pick mine, you will find on my name after code

Very long question, hopefully I didn't forget anything 😀

For the use calls in USA check your phone, this must be a VoLTE certified by Fizz https://fizz.ca/en/faq/compatible-devices

In Canada the mobile provider, should fade out the 3G this year, therefore, you should consider to have a VoLTE certified phone in Canada to to use the call option (or you can opt to use Fongo, textnow, or any other VoIP app)
