Good morning @Cooksville_Steve
Unfortunately the answer is yes AND no. :-)
Yes until spring 2025 when the 3G network is expected to be disbanded.
No after that. Frequencies for 3G and 4G are below, as well as the source. Typically Fizz uses other provider towers when not using their own.
Other provider Wireless
3G : 850 MHz Cellular, Band 5 (UMTS/ HSPA+ 21 Mbit/s). 1900 MHz PCS, Band 2 (UMTS/ HSPA+ 21 Mbit/s).
4G : 700 MHz Lower A/B/C, Band 12 (LTE). 1700/ 2100 MHz AWS, Band 4 (LTE). 2600 MHz IMT-E, Band 7 (LTE)Source:

Yes, a 2G phone operating on the GSM 850/1800/1900 MHz bands should work for text messaging on the Fizz network in Ontario. However, it's important to note that Fizz primarily uses 3G and 4G LTE networks, and the 2G network may not be supported indefinitely.
If you plan to use this phone for an extended period, you might want to consider upgrading to a device that supports VOLTE to ensure continued service.

From my understanding Fizz in Ontario uses another provider which does not have 2G . So it should not work.
