How do you see electric vehicles, equipped with many things on long Canadian winters and long trips compared to their gas options that are available still?

Electric vehicles in winter can lose up to about 50% of range. Here in Quebec, there are several charging stations everywhere, which is not the case in the rest of Canada.
It's more economical to drive if you do a lot of mileage because you know it's expensive to buy this kind of vehicle.
For heat, the majority is no longer a problem with heat pumps.

EVs are improving but face challenges in cold winters and long trips. Battery efficiency drops in cold, and charging infrastructure isn't as widespread as gas stations. Plan ahead for a smoother ride.

You're right, EVs can lose up to 50% of their range in winter. Luckily, Quebec has plenty of charging stations, unlike other parts of Canada. Despite the high initial cost, EVs are more economical if you drive a lot.

It is more planning when you're going to make a long trip. It also can lose 40% to 50% of its range when its realy cold. If you have a level 2 charger and your work is not realy far it worth the gas savings.

I really enjoy my electric car, the cold sure does suck the range out of it. I've done a long trips with the gas car in winter instead 500km+ just to save some time. I've even though of somehow installing a small diesel heater for really cold weather to heat the cab or even the coolant lines. Maybe a long range electric with a range extender might strike a good balance for the areas with colder climates.

Hybrid vehicles are both worlds in comparison between electric vehicles and gas vehicles.
I just wanted your thoughts about that how you see electric vs gas that are either expensive and time consuming vs pollution that they make while driving them on the other hand?

honestly it’s kinda a trade off if you’re keeping your car for a long time then it might be worth it to spend the money up front and buy electric but otherwise the money you’ll save is waisted if you don’t use it vs buying gasoline on a cheaper car

It is it cost me around 30$ month for 1000km. Where you lose some savings is on the high cost of aquisition of an ev.

Yes it can be, if you do alot km per years and can charge at home it will save you money for sure. If you're not doing alot of km you can also save money but its to get one for the right price!

Plugging hybrids can also be good they are a bit more expensive but if your work is close you could run only on electricity to go there. Exept with winter since it need the engine to heat the car.

Plugging hybrids is average 24 to 98 km. This is correct for small ride.

having the ability to drive on ev most of the time and the comfort to drive far distances if required this makes the most sense for most people at the moment

Driving in the city with EVs makes total sense but I recently did a road trip in the Maritimes that I couldn't have done for sure with an electric vehicles so for the time being especially for Canada EVs are quite limiting

Still in Canada they will not work that well as alternative, especially when you need to reach remote locations or drive for several hours in the middle of nowhere

Yes atleast the Canada gouvernement is investing to deploy more recharge stations. 8 days they invested an additional 18 millions for 1600 charging stations.

But I think solar works with the sun, not under the snow when in long winters. Wind is mostly there during those cold days.

Different use cases… Wind is energy is way more harsh on the environment and generate a lot of noise pollution. Solar is way easier to put in place but snow and ice are often a challenge and panels need to be heated to be more efficient

Yes, there is a lot to be considered when installing any option. That's for sure to keep environment friendly but if there is a need to warm up panels than where would be that energy coming from. That's like a getting credit than paying back.

Yes its usefull for summer. For winter it would be nice if the energie could be stock in a battery but at that point the savings will probably be less then the cost.

For those who frequently need a car for very long trips, an electric car might not be the best choice. However, if you typically stop every 2 to 3 hours for a coffee break or to use the restroom, it can be quite manageable. That said, using fast-charging stations for long trips can be costly compared to charging at home, which might make it less appealing for frequent long-distance drivers, for this an hybrid will be a better option.
Tesla opening its charging stations to other brands is great news, as their network has excellent coverage.
Finally, in long trip during the winter you will lose easily 30% or you can opt to freeze and drive slow, today cars are able to do 450-500 km therefore is not bad, and in a couple of years probably it will be better.

Lets hope they improve their services as well cars that could accept faster or something like immediate fill ups. All other things are such as hassle for all waiting around if they busy or just using their private time.

Sure, if you drive at 120-130 km/h and need to drive for 5 or 6 hours straight, an electric car may not be the best choice for you.
For example, if you need to cover 1000 km in a day as quickly as possible due to constraints, and this is an exception, you might want to consider renting a car. However, if such trips are frequent, an electric car might not be suitable for you at this point in time. Even with 800V technology, you still need 15-20 minutes to charge up to 80%, after it will slow. However, in 10 years they made a very good improvement, probably for 2030 they will be much better.
