On Quebec plan, can I call and text Canada/international numbers if they are in Quebec?

I'm currently on Canada plan, but the person I kept that plan for passed away last month.. So, I'm thinking of changing my plan to Quebec only, since I don't have someone to contact outside of Quebec for the time being – and my budget is quite low, so the 4$+tx could make a difference for a while.

This being said, I have friends I text and/or call that are from outside of Quebec (so with another province's regional number) who live in Quebec. Would we still be able to communicate if I change my plan? And what about someone from another country, if that ever happens?

I'm guessing the answer is yes, since I assume the plan is more in regards to the area than the number when it's about cellphones, but I still have a little bit of doubt.

Thanks a lot!

I'm sorry to hear about your loss and understand your need to adjust your phone plan to better suit your current situation and budget.

Switching from a Canada-wide plan to a Quebec-only plan with Fizz will indeed change how you can use your phone service. Here's how it generally works:

    1. Local Calls and Texts within Quebec: With a Quebec-only plan, you can make unlimited calls and send texts to any number while you are physically in Quebec, regardless of the area code of the number you're contacting. This means you can still communicate with your friends who have out-of-province numbers as long as they are in Quebec and you are also in Quebec.
    2. Receiving Calls and Texts: You can receive calls and texts from anywhere, regardless of the caller’s location or their phone number’s area code. There's no additional charge for receiving calls or texts on a Quebec-only plan.
    3. International Contacts: If you have a Quebec-only plan and you want to call or text someone in another country, this would generally not be included in your plan. Fizz, like many carriers, often requires an additional international calling or texting plan or add-on for such services. However, receiving international calls or texts should still be fine.
    4. Traveling Outside Quebec: If you travel outside of Quebec, you might not be able to make calls or send texts without additional add-ons or pay-per-use fees, depending on Fizz's policies and your specific plan.

It's always a good idea to check directly with Fizz for the most accurate and up-to-date information, as plans and services can change. Also, they can provide more specific information based on your exact plan and needs. Remember, you can modify your Fizz plan at the end of your current payment cycle, and the changes will take effect at the beginning of your next cycle.

    I hope this helps :)

    Hi @featherlike

    Sorry for your lost.

    Regarding your question:

No, with the Quebec plan, you cannot call someone using a number that is not from Quebec, even if the person is physically near you in Quebec.

As for SMS, it's a different story. You can send SMS to anyone if you have an SMS option in your plan, and it's included. If you don't have the option, you'll need to have an add-on or money in your wallet. This applies whether you're communicating with people in Quebec or Europe, and the cost will be the same.

For receiving calls, if you have unlimited calls and you are in Quebec, you can receive calls from anywhere, and this is included in your plan.

The incoming SMS are always free.

    Hi @Jess_i88b6

Thank you for your kind words and your help.

The plan would include unlimited calls and unlimited SMS.

So, from my understanding, unlimited calls are strictly for Quebec based numbers + the "free" ones like 1-800, is that right? And what happens if the person I'm calling has a Quebec number, but is outside of Quebec?

For SMS, if I understand this right, they're all international, no matter the plan? So I could text my friends who have a foreign number, but not call them, and they could call me if their own plan allows it?

And, if ever I needed to buy an add-on at some point, the 60 min call one can be used in multiple calls right? For instance, let's say I call sometime and we talk for 10 min, there would be 50 min remaining until I fully use them, right? Also, is there somewhere to see the count on our account, to keep track of our minutes left?
