Fizz cell international service in Europe/Asia

Hi

I'm thinking on switching from Virgin to Fizz, but I'm wondering about that : "You cannot fizz at the moment give the opportunity to use the calls only in Canada and USA"

I travel quite often to Europe and Asia, and even if I never make or answer calls from there, my phone is still connected to a local carrier there, allowing me to receive the text messages for example on my iPhone (that I don't answer to avoid charges, but incoming are free)

With Fizz, the cell won't get any signal and only wifi work, avoiding me to receive my "regular" text messages like I always do with my current and previous carriers? (not talking about iMessages here, as they work with any wifi if no data)

Thanks for the clarification, that's an important point for me that I want to make sure before going forward with a move, for example I may need to receive verification codes by text messages sometimes for apps or services (and there's not always an option for email verification code instead)

The incoming message are always free I used in Europe multiple time

with fizz you can have the data paying as you go or buy and addon for that

putting money in your wallet (pay as you go) or the addon can be used only for the outgoing texte and for the data

Fizz is still working on the providing phone calls outside Canada and US. But you will be able to receive SMS free of charge.

Currently you can buy the travel add-ons: data or SMS (incoming SMS are always free) or pay as you go (you should add money to your Fizz Wallet).

PS. Don't forget to use a refferal code to get a 25$ bonus, you can choose mine it's after my name Andrei_ref_ or choose another one from this page:

    Hey Jess

What I wanted to know, is that if outside of Canada or USA it will or not connect to "local" carrier allowing to still receive free incoming text messages for example

I've heard some other "cheap" carrier like Public won't get any signal outside North America, and was wondering if it's the same with Fizz.. but from what I read you said, my iPhone will connect to carriers in Europe like it currently does with my Virgin Plus plan

  • It will connect to local carrier and you can also thru Settings in your iPhone go in Cellular>Network Selection and pick various local provider if more than one is available. You can then see which works best to receive your free text in. In various country, I have also been able to get phone calls in although it is not consistent.

    Hello bEn_MTL,
Thank you for describing your questions to us.
The incoming SMS will work during your trips outside the Canada + USA coverage. However, sending SMS will be available only to certain countries by using the wallet option, the SMS service is only available if when you add the amount in your wallet you can see a certain amount in the SMS section. You can also have Data Add-Ons or use the Wallet for data, however, Fizz does not support calls outside the Canada + USA coverage and your Voicemail won't work either as the call is not registered at all while you're outside the coverage.
In order to be able to use data in Europe, you'll have to purchase a Travel add-on from your account: My plans - Manage plan - Travel - search the country and choose the Data Travel Add-on for the country you searched. You can also use the "Pay as you go" option by adding money to your wallet (more info on the following FAQ link: https://fizz.ca/en/faq/what-is-my-wallet-and-how-do-i-use-it). For more information about Travel Add-ons, please follow this link: https://fizz.ca/en/faq/what-is-an-add-on-and-how-do-i-buy-one.
I hope you have a pleasant day!
