Which speed testing site do you trust most?
Trying to troubleshoot why we now have different speed readings on different devices with our 400mbs service.
My wife's macbook air, hardwired and 10 feet away from the modem gets 450 mbs with all speed test sites.
My 1 year old desktop pc, hardwired with modem's included cable and 2 feet away from modem gets these speeds:

Hi @trapa
No one, since it depends to which server are connected
But I like speedtest, which allow me to pick a server outside quebec, you can pick a server in toronto for example
this will allow you to test the routing table too
The speed of your desktop can depends from the cable, the ethernet card, problems with your computer etc etc

it depends more on the ability of the computer to receive the signal

Interesting. What do you mean by that? Is there a setting that can be enabled to achieve best results? This is a mini pc that I bought less than a year ago. I bought it because it cam with 16 gigs of Ram even though I don't do any serious work with it, just browsing and some text.

if it is an already assembled computer sold as at bureau en gros, it can have technologies of 5 years and more like the motherboard the network card

Hi @trapa
which browser are you using?
You should test with the same browser, the majority of them they will open multiple connection to speed up the downloads, and the quantity is not the same.
Did you check on the PC the CPU utilization during the tests?
Are you sure, that during the test other users connected to internet are not watching a video, download etc?
Did you try to swap the ethernet cable between the 2 computers
in fast.com on the setting you can change the multiple connection put at 1 on both computer

We have a 2018 mac mini sitting next to my pc,that we never use and has been off for months. I turned it on and hard wired it to modem and got 450mbs on all test sites.
I restarted my pc which is something I have not done since installing the Fizz modem and my speeds shot up to 450 mbs as well but it only lasted for a few minutes and speeds went back to very low hundreds.
I tested with different browsers and here are my results. I'm beginning to suspect my own pc.

Hi @trapa
It really seems a problem with your PC
If you are using Windows check if the driver is up to date
Check if your ethernet speed is a 1000 and full duplex

Speedtest by ookla...

It definitely is a problem with my pc. I restarted in safe mode and got excellent speeds (see pic) and immediately when I restarted in regular mode my upload speed 50 mb + was better than my download speed 47 mb. It's a head scratcher for sure.

You have a VPN, probably that is the problem
1 -
Doesn't everybody? The 125 mb download is with vpn off. 67MB with vpn on. Not that much of a difference.

Hi @trapa
the problem if you routing your traffic on ethernet 2 you are still limited
When you run in safe mode you removed all the routing and configuration of the second ethernet probably
I don't know your configuration, and the type of VPN but I will look on that to solve your problem

I would appreciate that, really. Thank you.

Happy to report that after much trial and error and with help from this forum and others, I was able to solve this problem. The drivers for the network adapter were the problem and after updating the problem went away and speeds were restored.
Thank you for the help!

Thank you! I never tried this one

Like your OG post I like using fast.com great to see lots of other site to try out and see if its consistent

Good idea to compare data coming from different services

All speed testing sites use relative comparison to measure speed. So they all vary in accuracy. To me the best website is https://www.speedtest.net/

Very important to not use a cable connection (no wifi) and stop using all the other device to have an accurate measurement

speedtest.net is good enough - it allows you to test based on your location / IP address closest to their server.

I also use Speedtest, probably more out of habit than anything, been using it for 10 years or more.
