Living in the US for 2 years - Can I keep my sim card?

Hi, I'm about to go live in the US for 2 years, I will get a US number/sim card but I would like to keep my Canadian phone number.

Reading this on the FAQ:

We recommend purchasing a local SIM card. This will give you access to better rates on data. Helpful tip: use messaging apps (whatsApp, Messenger...) to stay in touch on the road instead of calling and texting.

As for your Fizz plan (Internet and/or mobile), it is unfortunately impossible for now to put it on pause. The best solution if you don’t want to lose your My Rewards status along with all your upgrades and perks is to adjust your plan to its strict minimum (by only keeping the Quebec coverage in a mobile plan for instance) for the time being.

I plan to do exactly that, reduce my Fizz plan to its strict minimum and keep it active. I intend on using both my Fizz sim and US sim on my phone at the same time. The US sim will be the main one and I will use the data/calls from that one but I wish to still receive calls and text on the Canadian sim.

Is this going to work for the whole 2 years?

Thanks

    Hi Mathieu,

if you see FIZZ EXT as the network name on your phone, this means you are no longer on the Fizz network. You can use your Fizz mobile services thanks to our agreements with partner networks, but the majority of your usage, however, must be done within your subscription area (whatever your coverage area is). Learn more about the usage limits while on partner networks.

You can NOT use Fizz EXT, on the partners network, over 3 months as stated by Fizz:

"We reserve the right to block access to all of your Fizz mobile services if your mobile services are used primarily on partner networks (Fizz EXT) for 3 consecutive payment cycles."

If, however, you have any questions related to Fizz's services in such situations, or any other matter, and you wish to contact Fizz’s customer service team directly for advice but also for specific answers, here is the procedure to be able to contact the service: https://fizz.ca/en/faq/status-services and simply scroll down until you see the green bubble, than click on it to start your chat session with the customer service.

If the chat bubble still does not appear at the bottom of the page, on the right, after a few seconds, the number of pending sessions is higher than the service’s processing capacity. At that time, you can leave a message on the other proposed communication channels:

-By private message on Facebook/Messenger: https://facebook.com/fizzca.

-By private message on Twitter : https://mobile.twitter.com/fizz_ca

    -Whatsapp : (438) 393-5814

Both of those links lead to 404 pages...

"We reserve the right to block access to all of your Fizz mobile services if your mobile services are used primarily on partner networks (Fizz EXT) for 3 consecutive payment cycles"

What constitutes "usage". If I use my US sim card and receive a phone call here and there from the Canadian card does that count as "usage" ?

So if it's not possible what I will do is leave the Fizz card in a phone in Canada and redirect the calls.

When a call is redirected to a us number are the minutes counted on the Fizz plan as well? What about texts?

Sorry for the official Fizz's links that do not work, I am not responsible for their proper functioning.

Hence the comment that would refer you directly to the Fizz's customer service team, in order to obtain official confirmation of my statements, since several official links have died for a long time already on the platform.

As for your other questions, here are two links that will work this time, and they can answer them and also provide you with more information about them:

Fizz just ended their call and text services in the US. So as of now, you will not be able to receive any call or text on your Fizz SIM card while you are in the US

redirecting the calls from a phone located in Canada to a US phone number could work and yes it would take minutes from your plan.
