Samba port blockout outgoing?

I assume Fizz is blocking port 139 incoming, as most ISPs do. Okay.

But it seems 139 is also filtered outgoing. A friend set up a "Samba share" which I can access from a different account, but not from Fizz.

If it's blocked by Fizz, can it be opened for me?

Thanks

  • Hello, excuse any misunderstanding on my part but a quick search shows this likely has more to do with your own computer's firewall. I suggest you check your firewall settings and add an exception for Samba.

    Hi @ankman

I personally think this is a very bad idea, however, if you really want probably you can ask to your friend to make a port forward something like 2139 => 139 look to this command \\hostname:port\share

I will use a vpn to do that

    Thanks,

using a different port was also considered.

It's not my firewall either (I don't use one anyway). Port 139 on the target machine shows open scanning it from another computer, but FILTERED scanning it from the Fizz account. So I assume Fizz is blocking port 139 outbound.

    Hi @ankman

I understood, but did you try the work around to use a not privileged port? Therefore, using the port forward on your friend router
