Is it normal that if I disable band steering that my 5G network has a noticeably weaker signal than

Is the faster wifi network supposed to have a weaker signal? If not, is there a fix?

Yes it's completely normal.
The primary difference between 2.4 and 5GHz bands is the range (coverage) and the bandwidth (speed) that these bands provide. For instance, the 2.4GHz band offers coverage at a longer range; however, it transmits data at slower speeds. Instead, the 5GHz band gives less coverage but sends data at faster speeds.
Fizzy explained it very well and if you want you can buy a wifi extender which will increase the coverage in the area (i have never tried it) better to ask for more information

Yes it's normal.
Like Fizzy explains, the range of 5Ghz bands is less important than the 2.4 GHZ.

Mostly range coverage between those 2 types!
The frequencies of 2.4GHz and 5GHz are different. The 5GHz one has shorter radio waves, so they are faster, but has lower reachability and are not that strong to cross obstacles like walls. The 2.4GHz frequency has higher reachability, but its larger waves make it transmit data in slower speeds. Also, the 2.4GHz frequency is pretty busy, as most devices rely on it (for ex baby monitors, smart lamps, smart robots, the original PS4 - newer models can work on 5GHz frequency). This means many equipments are using this "road" to traffic, making it busy (slower).

Yep the 5Ghz are weaker than the 2.4Ghz in the signal departement but its better on speed and stability. You should enter both on your cellephone/pc and let it make the decision to take the better one based on your current location in the house. Have a nice day
5G is for higher bandspeed and lower distance.
2.4G is for longer distance but lower speed.
