Hi Billy,
Fizz parent company Videotron hasn't yet launched 5G (but its coming really soon for Videotron clients). Because Fizz is a low cost MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) I doubt the launch of 5G will come at the same time. I might be wrong, but I feel FIZZ will eventually have it down the road. But we will need to be patient. it could take years to get it
Hope this answers your question and let's hope sooner than later.18 -
Hi
Here's the announcement from Videotron: 5G coming soon at Videotron
"Like all Canadian mobile providers, Videotron has already started deploying its 5G network. Our experts are working to optimize our facilities to implement 5G in selected urban areas in December 2020. Our 5G network will then be gradually rolled out to cover our entire mobile network over the next few years."
Quebecor owns both Fizz and Videotron, so any infrastructure upgrades can be shared. At the moment, 5G does not seem to be a priority for Fizz. It will depend on customer needs and what the competition is offering.16 -
Who knows ?
Fizz might just surprise everyone sooner than we think.15 -
probably not. they will want you to pay more for videotron16

I don’t think so. Vidéotron doesn’t support it at the time being.15

I am wondering why we need the 5G?
Fizz does not have VoLTE for example (do you think that this will be a better option to hope to have?)
Do you know the speed for the LTE (150Mbps) or LTE-Advanced (300Mbps)? (Probably you should hope to use multiple band not only the B4)
Why do you need more speed on your phone that you have at home?
Do you really need to use your 20G (max possible without the rollover) to be used in minutes?
If in your home your cable the house with cat 7 (Then 10Gb) put you get a 30 mbps internet do you really need the cat 7?
Are you ready to buy a new phone for at least 800$ in order to have the 5G?
Do you know how the LTE is working? Do you believe if more people they will move to 5G you will gain in speed with the LTE?
For me the 5G will be great for home internet, then, you will not need the cable any more, and it can reach places where internet is not available right now15 -
5G is/will be a premium offering by the major carriers (Bell, Telus, Rogers, then Videotron and Shaw and Freedom and others will follow later).
As the low-cost offering by Quebecor to compete with Lucky, Public Mobile and similar online operators, the better investment for them would be to expand its subscription area and quality of signal beyond urban Ottawa.12 -
I don't think it's will happen in a near future8

unlikely
and to be honest, totally worthless or useless !
let me tell you why:
5g requires an (expensive) 5g-compatible phone
we currently have limited available compatible phone on the market
5g is more a ''big hype'' pretending to revolutionize (again) data speed (remember 3g to 4g..)
because 5g is a new technology, it requires costly upgrade for telcos (here Videotron, the parent company of Fizz)
fizz business model is to provide ''affordable'' phone and data service to his cost-savings conscious clients (most of us !)
if you need a 5g service, well, upgrade to parent company videotron with an iphone 12 : are you willing to spend more than +$100 per month (5g cost expected in canada !!), i dont believe !
so dont fall in the hype trap, and enjoy Fizz low cost 4g network (-:7
