I had my service started on Fizz for my mobile on the 8th of November and ported over my old cell number from Rogers and its working well. Question is, do I need to call Rogers to confirm that my service with them is discontinued or is this taken care of by Fizz?

A mobile phone number can only work with one carrier.
Once your old number (the one with Rogers) is fully functionally with Fizz (that means incoming and outgoing calls use Fizzz network), that means your contract with Rogers is over. The porting is complete. You don't need to contact Rogers, Fizz will take care of the process. If it takes too long, you should contact Fizz (NOT Rogers).9 -
It should be done automatically. Your Rogers bill will be pro-rated for the part of the month you used.8

Since 2008 as per the CRTC, the successful porting process is deemed as enough to assume the cancelation of the previous provider. You will son receive a bill from Rogers with adjusted proration in order to fairly charge you for the days of the month before you ported out.8
